Rasta is a cool religion with rules (like every religion)

but they too forget what is the most important (cause we have the same God)
and one of the thing that is important is : Not judging (we can't judge we don't know everything) which is cool (but I guess they didn't get it yet)

I also heard that they treat woman like shit !

and I remember this song from B. Marley
"I wanna love you, and treat you right" (as if usualy it is not the case)

Ummm .....Rastas are supposed to hate everything white. It's a tenant of their living god, Haile Sellassie, who is actually dead now.

The biatch that Jamaican Rastas (it's an African religion) have to live with is that Jamaicans are mixed-race for the most part. It's all about sel-love, but how can they exorcise the white parts of themselves?

Hey RAF! Is that your pic Dude? Lookin' good!

BTW Marley had 30 kids I believe with 20 women? The majority, even Ziggy's Mom in Miami, were left with zip-nada. Treat you right indeed......

this is an unfair generalization of rastafarians

I do know about the *stereotypes* of rasta folks - but it doesn't apply to all - just like some of the other ridiculous stereotypes towards other cultures

we have friends (very white friends) who host reggae artists in our home town. these folks come and stay in there home for weeks at a time and do shows locally. I've partied with them and haven't found them to be homophobes or rude to women. once everyone in the room is feeling the *one love* rasta men have been VERY *kind* to me.... ;)

I agree any generalisation is just unfair for those who might not be the same.
but also partying with rasta and living with a Rastaman is not the same at all ...

the only reason why I did get into it is to say again and again that's since rules wants to put anybody down in a way or an other (for any other reason than being unloving) it's unloving.

MinisterAmos :yes it is my pic but believe me on words I did put one of the best one (Ego Trip - but no harm I think) I have a few pics I wouldn't show at all !!!

i've met bisexual rastafari. they have never been from jamaica though.

i wouldn't confuse dancehall ragga with rastafari (and roots reggae). there is some cross over. but a lot of the dancehall artists praise jah in their music, but are not rastafari. they're just basically ganstas. i have have heard most homophobia in the dancehall culture, especially the younger dancehall soundsystems. it's too bad. it's great music, but i am not going to listen to or tolerate homophobia in any music.

jamaica is a dangerous place man. rastafari are only a small percentage. i would be totally surprised if rastafari were the people who attacked your white friend. not that a lot of rastafari aren't racist, especially in jamaica.

but ya, it's just another abrahamic religion with this issue.

it's the best gospel music, hands down, i have ever heard though. a lot of hip hop is rude, homophobic and sexist too. it doesn't mean i huck all my hip hop out. music related to rastafari are those things a way smaller fraction of the time. i've listened to a lot of both.

if some of them are close-minded and ignorant, that is *their* problem and loss.

Sorry folks... Homophobia is alive and well in the West Indies. The last time I visited my aunt, she noticed that my black jeans were a bit too tight and my hair was dyed electric blonde. (I'm black, by the way). Despite the fact that I'm probably getting myself into more heterosexual drama than one man should get himself into (Good Girl Or Bad Girl and No Apologies know of my heterosexual drama too well!) my family ostracized me because they thought I was gay.

In fact, in the West Indies, homosexuals are looked upon with pure contempt because they're seen as the reason HIV is in the population, which is a major scourge over there, if you don't know. The highest HIV rates in the western hemisphere are in the Caribbean region. (You have Karposi's Sarcoma, mon.)
