i've met bisexual rastafari. they have never been from jamaica though.
i wouldn't confuse dancehall ragga with rastafari (and roots reggae). there is some cross over. but a lot of the dancehall artists praise jah in their music, but are not rastafari. they're just basically ganstas. i have have heard most homophobia in the dancehall culture, especially the younger dancehall soundsystems. it's too bad. it's great music, but i am not going to listen to or tolerate homophobia in any music.
jamaica is a dangerous place man. rastafari are only a small percentage. i would be totally surprised if rastafari were the people who attacked your white friend. not that a lot of rastafari aren't racist, especially in jamaica.
but ya, it's just another abrahamic religion with this issue.
it's the best gospel music, hands down, i have ever heard though. a lot of hip hop is rude, homophobic and sexist too. it doesn't mean i huck all my hip hop out. music related to rastafari are those things a way smaller fraction of the time. i've listened to a lot of both.
if some of them are close-minded and ignorant, that is *their* problem and loss.
