It's a DFing offense. Which means the Craptower Society won't be getting one cent when I win the 649 tonight.

I've heard about a lot of them going to Vegas lately. If they can't gamble, why would they be going there? The usual story is that they're only going for the buffets and the shows, especially Celine Dion. Hard to believe they never, ever, drop a quarter in the slots while they're there!

...especially Celine Dion
That's obviously a lie then. Surely no-one goes to Vegas to purposely hear Celine Dion. The only reason they put her in casinos is that the slots drown out her squawking.
I always thought the rules about gambling were strange. You can't buy a lottery ticket but you can enter a free competition to maybe win the same amount??? Surely that's even more covetous. The principle of 'getting something you haven't worked for' being bad is difficult to define also. I get interest from my bank that I don't work for but I accept it.
Anyone remember the Simpsons episode where Ned Flander's wife says he doesn't have insurance cos he views it as a form of gambling - always reminds me of the JW mindset.

"The slots drown out her squawking..." hahahaha! No, really! The old Dub sisters go to Vegas just to hear her warble! Why else would they go there? Gambling is the primary reason most people go, and of course it couldn't be THAT...so they eat, and listen to Celine. Preferrably not in that order.

choosing life
Gambling may be a disfellowshipping offense, but plenty of jws do it. I went on a criuse and found many in the casino gambling away. There were no consequences payed later.
And then there are the jws who don't gamble, but sure like it when their unbelieving family does. One sister's daughter won big enough to be set for life. They bought her a car and a house. But that was OK because she didn't buy the lottery ticket herself. Kinda like having your family sell drugs and you can use the money.

Gamblibg is a disfellowshipping office, though I have never seen anyone actually get df'd fot it.

Gambling is a df'ing offense. But if the people gambling are not found out and turned in to an elder body that will act on it, they won't be df'd. That is true especially if the gamblers are elders and their wives. I find this is the case when it come to associating with df'd family members. Elders do it, other elders know of it and do nothing, saying that it was necessary family business, but then turn around and threaten some rank and file with judicial action. I can see elders/wives going on a trip and protecting each other from judicial action.
Good point about accepting gifts bought with lottery winnings as accepting gifts purchased with drug money.

One of the funniest things I ever witnessed (no pun intended ), was the night when I went across the street to buy my lottery tickets for the 649. It was a Meeting night and at the time I was rooming with a fanatical pioneer (rent was cheap). Anyway, I did my scouting of the store to make sure no Dubs were in there and lo and behold one of the elders walks in, so I walked to the back of the store, killing time, waiting for him to leave so I could buy my tickets. He seemed to be taking forever and I was getting annoyed thinking "what the hell is he doing up there?" So I walked up behind him and sure enough, he was buying his tickets for the Lotto 649 that night. I was soooo tempted to say "..don't forget to get the encore!" but I didn't. He left, I got my tickets and I started laughing and laughing......I was still laughing when I went to the Meeting that night and saw him there.
I got my JW dad to spend a couple of bucks a week on the lottery. He sees nothing wrong with it and says (tongue-in-cheek): "..This isn't gambling. This is a supplement to the pension I was never going to need." LOL!!

I couldn't agree with you more... basically anything that hints of us being "normal" is banned. There really is nothing wrong with gambling as long as you don't become an addict. Another stupid WT Pharisaical rule.
