I know that the dubs say that the end is close, but what does that mean exactly in THEIR mind.

What percentage of JW's think that the end is less than 5 years away? I'd say 25%

What percentage of JW's think that the end is less than 10 years away? I'd say 75%

What percentage of JW's think that the end is between 10 and 20 years from now? I'd say 24%

What percentage of JW's think that the end is more than 20 years away? I'd say 1%

Just copy and paste these 4 lines above and add what you think would be the % of JW's who think the end is in that category.

I wish there was a way to go on an active JW site and ask them?

JW's were told about "this generation" meaning something different than
they were first taught. They reason that the end must be far off for the GB
to bother saying anything. Also, the GB has only slowly been reestablishing
that the end is imminent, regardless of their supposed sense of urgency.

If a JW thinks that the end is less than 5 years away compared to another JW in the same congregation that thinks the end is 20 years away, you can imagine the difference in perspective they will have about this world.

One might want to buy a house while the other might want to quit his job and pioneer...

    On the way out,

So, you think that most dubs don't think the end is that close.....interesting

The urgency isn't there like it used to hey...

My ex-husband insisted, "The way this world is going, this system can't last more than two years---two...years!!!" [spitting scorn] He would never let me make any long-range decisions because of that.

    That was seventeen years ago.

    That was seventeen years ago.

When I joined, 20 years ago, the end was also 2 or 3 years away. You see, it had to be before the year 2000, so anywhere between 1989 and 1994 was reasonable. We had many pioneers back then, and it reflected the urgency.

I wonder why we don't see a "surge" in pioneers in the congregations, since he end is close again.

I think it breaks down into age groups.

90+ think its 1 year away

75-90 think its less than 5 years away

60-75 think its less than 10 years away

40-60 think its less than 20 years away

20-40 think its more than 20 years away

15-20 think it will happen in their lifetime

5-15 think they will be separated from their parents any day because of some vague persecution.

Everyone wants to think it will happen in a way that will be convenient with their plans.

I grew up thinking it will happen this spring or next fall.

I don't really count the children. They are taught that it
could be very soon, but as they grow older, most will
    doubt it's imminence.

Otherwise, I could tend to agree that JW's fit
Armageddon into their plans. That might be part of
the children's growing out of a belief in imminence.
They become teens with future plans- they don't want
to put off marriage (actually I could say "sex") and college
    and career.

People in their twenties to forties might start bringing
Armageddon closer as they think about the future.

    Good thoughts.
