Has the supposely slowed down economy affected you or do you find yourself having all the money you need and your job holding up well? Do you own or rent?

If you needed a new car , or wanted to take a trip could you do so? Do you still go out to eat at nice places or do you have at home?

Would you be in worse shape if you stayed a JW, using all your gas up driving around the country, going to assemblies, contributing at the Hall, buying literature etc.?

    A quick run-down......

I just started collecting S.S., so if my part time job holds out, I may finally be able to save some money.

I just bought a second hand truck that is (hopefully) in good shape, and plan to keep it at least 6 years. I am thinking of it as my last truck, so I want to get the most out of it.

The wifes car has 2 years of payments left, the house is paid for, no other outstanding bills.

If we can stay healthy for a few years, we should be able to enjoy life some more. We go out for breakfast, but only occasionally out for dinner. (Breakfast is much cheaper). We usually wait until after Christmas before we think about going out for dinner much. That's usually when we have a few gift certificates to local restaurants.

As for traveling, the next town is far enough for us. If we want to see Europe, we rent a movie.

Outa, I can lend you fifty bucks, but I need it back next week, to put on the wifes car payment.

I told ya it's tight right now.

As a web developer, I am exposed to economic weakness and get to see it first hand. The reason is that companies don't hire developers unless there is new development going on. When companies do not have the spare cash to spend they do not allow new development. Basically software developers are the "canary in the cave" for the economy.

Everything I am seeing at my company and others in the area indicate that the economy is going strong.

There are lots of developer jobs out there and companies are having a hard time finding developers to fill all of the positions.

I just did my taxes last week and my income was up 14% over last year. Part of the reason for the increase is that my employer has put in a hiring freeze due to union contract negotiations and I get tons of OT opportunities. I'm not sure of the rational behind the employer's decision, but they can pay me or someone else. The work needs to get done. For the first time in a long, long time, my only debt is a mortage and I'm able to double and sometimes triple the payment as I want to be free of that obligation. On another front, my retirement portfolio did really well in 2006. So far the current economy is treating me well.

Would you be in worse shape if you stayed a JW, using all your gas up driving around the country, going to assemblies, contributing at the Hall, buying literature etc.? Yes, Yes, Yes and Yes.

When you don't own anything then the general economy doesnt really have much of an impact. Possibly a slower economy means the price of renting stabilises slightly but otherwise it makes no difference - I live hand to mouth and will have to do so for quite a long time.

Even though my wife and I are both realtors we both rent because there is no way we could have what we do now if we owned with the current pricing and we are planning for where we really want to live and that is south so we invest in other than real estate which I see coming down here and everywhere.

If you needed a new car , or wanted to take a trip could you do so?

Trips yes and more yes as we have sereral planned already for the year

Do you still go out to eat at nice places or do you have at home?

Still eat out too much but eating home more just because of the diet and knowing what we are truly eating

Would you be in worse shape if you stayed a JW, using all your gas up driving around the country, going to assemblies, contributing at the Hall, buying literature etc.?

Definitely worse shape because of not being able to be there for the client and the time of my work, spending useless money on witness activities not my cup of tea anymore, I would rather give to others who truly need than spend on driving and meeting attendance.

Over the last six years my base income has gone up $30k. So far so good. Just took a salaried position where my income will rise another 30%. Yeah, college does pay off...

Has the supposely slowed down economy affected you or do you find yourself having all the money you need and your job holding up well? >> Living comfortable

Do you own or rent? >> own

If you needed a new car , or wanted to take a trip could you do so? Do you still go out to eat at nice places or do you have at home? >>Company car, which makes for less hassles. No insurance, maintainance, gas cost to worry about. I do enough company traveling as is, 90-plus days last year. Thats enough restaurant eating.

Would you be in worse shape if you stayed a JW, using all your gas up driving around the country, going to assemblies, contributing at the Hall, buying literature etc.? >> You bet, money never did magically appear.

Outaservice (does anyone want to lend me $100,000) >> My girlfriend has $72,000 of loaned cash from me, so sorry no help here...
