At present working as self employed teaching chemistry (private tuition) and helping students write up their projects, there is always plenty of work in fact more than one can keep up with, and rates are always good. Enjoying the freedom of not having bosses over me. I like travelling but not eating out often it's better to organise parties at home, can feed a lot of people with the same money.

Although I'm undereducated (thanks, WT) and semi-disabled (thanks, psycho ex-manager) and working part time, I'm doing much better this year: picked up some part-time income doing work that I enjoy, and today I start a class that will enable me to turn that into a business.

I live in a trailer; own the rig and rent the space. We eat out at medium-to-low-priced restaurants about twice a month. (I like greendawn's suggestion of parties at home; we would certainly do that if we had the space.)

And I don't think the improvement in my income is related to which party is in office; the class that starts today is organized by a private organization, not a government agency. Most of their funding comes from private sources.

The economy here in the US is actually very good. All of the key indicators(inflation rate, unemployment figures, gdp, etc. etc...) bear that out. But that doesn't mean some sectors of the economy and the individuals who work in them are not experiencing tough times. For instance, who wants to work in Detroit for one of the Big Three auto makers? Yea, those jobs pay great, but they are slowly going away. We are transforming from a manufacturing to a services-based economy in this country, and some still having a tough time adjusting to it.
