Honestly, do JW's practice this?

    1 Thes 5

14 On the other hand, we exhort YOU , brothers, admonish the disorderly, speak consolingly to the depressed souls, support the weak, be long-suffering toward all. 15 See that no one renders injury for injury to anyone else, but always pursue what is good toward one another and to all others.

If a JW is weak and misses meetings and becomes inactive, do the JW's really support the weak and are they long suffering towards them, or do they start shunning them once they start missing meetings regularly?

Not many, but a few do. They tend to be women or people judged to be "weak" themselves by the popular. The important thing to ask ourselves, when we were JWs did we reach out to others in need? If not, we were just a part of the problem as everyone else. Do we reach out now to those we see in need in our community?

did we reach out to others in need?

    Yes I did Blondie

And when I was in need, the JW's didn't help me out nor did they even try.

Which explains why I'm so angry to this day and think that they are Hypocrites

JH - I'd say that we on this board adhere to that scripture far more than Jehovah's people, and that includes the atheists!

I don't hold them animosity on that. I was just remembering a sister yesterday that was always there to help even though she did not have much herself either in time, money, or good health.

The thing to remember is what Jesus recognized, they are sheep without a shepherd.

In my experience, most JWs do practice this. In fact, it is the glue that holds them together, in spite of the frequent (dare I say cyclically predictable) authoritarian paroxysms of Headquarters paranoia.

To be honest, it's that kind of fellow-feeling for which I have the fondest memories of my life in the WTS.

I still have close friends who are witnesses. Even though I live 400 miles from them, when my family and I go visit they still are concerned me not going anymore. When we still lived there, they were always encouraging and non-judgemental. These particular friends were definitely the exception, not the rule. They will do almonst anything to help those in need and are the 1st ones to offer this help and support. They are true Christians regardless of religious affiliation. That cannot be said of most witnesses. These sisters love and concern for others goes far beyond any organizational doctrines. What makes this in teresting is that they are so active as witnesses. They are an example for ALL, both in and out of the Borg.

    Greetings JH,

Like Blondie pointed out, some will try to help. As soon as their winsome words and or "theocratic advice" dosen't help, (which often does not) then you become branded, stigmatised as a complainer or "here comes Brother/Sister Depressed" or "Brother/Sister Spiritually Weak". (They have a lexicon of names they can come with behind your back) Then they'll say something like if your depressed you need to go out in service more. Shit advice like that.

Peoples emotional and personal problems that crop up largely because they're part of that cult in the first place, is way beyond those who've been elected as "elders" ability to help. Often times some need proffessional help. Not some two bit watchtower advice.

Well, that's wonderful and it's the way Christ would have done it.

Usually the elders warn the flock not to mingle with those who don't serve Jehovah anymore, even though they aren't df'd.
