PUNISHED by WBTS for obeying conscience.

I have a friend we’ll call Michael whose conscience landed him in trouble with HQ.

He was a district overseer in the pre 75 era but his conscience would not allow him to

endorse the unscriptural date setting. He even went so far as to give a talk on

one round, cautioning against a loss of faith if '75 came and went and nothing happened.

It was interesting because one of the C O’s in his district was giving a talk at the same time,

which started with: "How many months now brothers????????????"

Anyway you can imagine the reaction in Bethel when recordings of Michael’s talk were sent in.

(Yes HQ has a spying system where selected C O and D O’s talk are recorded and sent to Bethel.)

Anyway, Michael was removed and a company man (Peter) was sent in to undo the damage.

Michael was very popular and sadly missed but Peter was able to pull most back to the party line.

And the outcome? Well…….. Peter is now a very "glorious one" in Brooklyn and

Michael is an ex-witness now happily aiding others to see the evils of the

organization his conscience eventually led him to reject.

Do others know of Witnesses punished by the society for obeying their conscience?

Have you read Crisis of Conscience by Raymond Franz ?

It has and is still helping me to see the hipocrisy at the WTB&TS.

thats a cool story, getting in trouble for no 1975 - my parents always told me that 1975 wasnt ever set in concrete by WTS and that it was people seeing things that weren't there - did the WTS actually print 1975 is the end or not?

I haven't heard of anyone being punished for disagreeing with the wts from the platform. It's a wonder he wasn't hauled off mid-talk if 1975 fever was running high in that district. Since he is now free of the org, they did him a favour.

I guess some people who find out the truth about wts doctrine leave partly due to their conscience, not wishing to knock on people's doors and preach lies to them.

    Greetings Yesidid,

Yes I was - a slap on the wrist. I spoke of the resurrection and of God's mercy and compassion at a huge non-JW memorial service for a murder victim. I was told that I used bad judgment. A JW friend who attended was not stumbled and took one elder to task for the WT's narrow-mindedness and "anti-interfaith" paranoia. There were letters to and from B'lyn.
This was the beginning - those who loved me, agreed that I did the right thing. Haters of Coco - plotted my overthrow. It got ugly. Could this actually happen among "Jehovah's people"? I was worthy of stoning. The start of my exile.

    Mia, you asked:

The WT is very cagey, but yes they did put that in print, one time that I can quote:

It is in the Life Everlasting in Freedom for the Sons of God, page 30:

"It would NOT be by mere chance or accident but WOULD BE ACCORDING TO THE LOVING PURPOSE OF JEHOVAH GOD FOR THE REIGH OF JESUS CHRIST...TO RUN PARALLEL WITH THE SEVENTH MILLENIUM OF MAN'S EXISTENCE."

Then on the pacing page, 31 and through 35 there is a chart of the "Significant Dates From Man's Creation to 7000 A.M.------------------The last line of the chart being:

    1975-------------End of 6th 1,000 year day of man's existence

    2975------------End of 7th 1,000 year day of man's existence

That is what they said, and I am writing that right out of the book.

nice story, most probably true. We would need more facts to substantiate the story.

I was pulled into the back room by elders for saying that I thought my hamster was going to be resurrected. (I was 10 years old at the time).

Seeing he was the district overseer giving talks in a congregation I guess no one was game. But someone, in at least one of the congregations, made sure the info got back to HQ and bethel did the hauling off.
