To my knowledge, I believe storing one's own blood for later transfusion is verboten. If it's in a cell-saver, it's okay, but the moment it's not connected to your body, you are out of luck.

SirNose has it right. I checked into this for my own surgery.

When my Hubby was diagnosed with cancer..he had the paperwork to fill out about the blood issue. Neither his JW Mom or him knew what they could or couldn't take!

I had to do the research (Many thanks to this board for your help).

Then I had to explain it to them.

Just what I wanted to do. (Not)

The stupid Laison Committee couldn't do a very good job explaining it .Of course they showed up once like vultures to lay their claim..and then never to be heard from again..except to drop by after I called them and told them he had just passed away. They rushed over and I asked them to say a prayer for him (He was still in bed waiting to be picked up) and they looked like I was crazy..and they didn't even want to get near his body....Maybe they were afraid of spooks..

Really made me mad that I had to ask them to say a prayer for him..like he wasn't any use to them anymore..

Funny..before that I had no real hard feelings towards them..after that I realized most of them were just plain downright MEAN!

But I bet if you took a survey of all the witnesses..you may find a handful that can explain their feelings on the blood issues..

Blind followers...If they can't explain it..who are they really following?..

    Snoozy..

ps...at that time the only thing they could do is recycle the blood through the machine ..Hemodilution..without it being stopped ..if it was stopped they couldn't use it....or /and use blood expanders..Ringers etc.

Just thought of one more thing re: the blood issue..when my JW Father in law developed bone cancer..he took all kinds of herbs and supplements from the health store..he also had a visiting nurse. towards the middle stage they found out there was a shot he could receive to try and help his bones. I don't remember what it was called but Medicare wouldn't cover it. It was experimental...The shot cost $1,000. a shot!

He had a few of them and then they decided it wasn't doing any good. But apparently the JW's said it was OK to take...I wish I could remember what it was......any Idea's?

I didn't see the one last night, M.J., but I wonder if this episode has been on before. Tragic story, and all too common.
