I loved the dresses and jewels ... how come PricewaterhouseCoopers knows the names prior to them being aired?

They are the American accounting company that tallies the votes, so naturally they know who won.

    Hey XJW & Viva --------

Your points, XJW, were well-made and enlightening to me. It's good to have clear heads and analytical minds about because some of us get caught up in the emotion and "lose our heads." [is that why I became a JW? don't answer that.]
Jewels and gowns were exquisite. Most ladies were beautifully coiffed [Gwyneth and, sorry - she played June Carter-Cash in "Walk the Line" - wow! Their hair made a statement.] and gracefully-aging Catherine Deneuve would be elegant in a gunny sack. The gowns were understatedly elegant, more so than in times past.
I was pleased with the Jean Hersholt award going to Sherry Lansing [sp? sp?]. All the wonderful efforts she has expended on behalf of humanity and in the end, to as much as admit, this award is for all of you. Aren't we all standing on the shoulders of giants? Makes me sick how the WT lambasts the Mother Theresas and Mohandas Ghandis of the world. Giving away religio-lit hardly matches the criteria for true effort on behalf of your fellows.

""It is also interesting to note that two black persons (Whitaker and Hudson) got Oscars this year. "".......

funny i didnt notice the 'color' of any of the actors, they had many nationalities there, it was wonderful

Denzel Washington and Halle Barry won best Actor and Actress back in 2001. Hollywood likes to portray themselves as progressives, but in reality is nothing but a good old boys club. Consider the fact that Washington's Best Actor award was the first for a black since Sidney Poitier in 1963. Also consider the fact that Halle Barry was the first black woman to ever recieve an award for Best Actress.

I always notice color, but then I'm a visual guy. Beyonce was a knockout, so was Nicole Kidman.

The two supporting actress nominees for Babel were outstanding. I thought the Japanese girl should have won. Babel is definately worth seeing.

I think that Forrest Whitaker almost made everybody cry. When he won the last award (I forget which award?), he was speechless. This time he wrote something down. Thank goodness! It was a tear-jerker for me! Looking at his wife with her mascara running down her face. . .

I didn't think the Departed was Oscar worthy and even though Scorcese got the award, I consider it a Pity Oscar since I always thought he should have won for Gangs of New York. I think Little Miss Sunshine was one of the best - although I haven't yet seen The Last King of Scotland. Thought Ellen did a great job as host..and although I love Celine Dion, I thought the song was atrocious.

I always watch the red carpet for the fashion - I thought Jodie Foster looked blah; Penelope Cruz looked fabulous and so did Nicole Kidman - although I was getting weary of the hair over to one side look that seemed to be in fashion last night. Reese Witherspoon looked amazing but I thought Kirsten Dunst was wearing a mundane frock that looked far too old and ill fitting for a young woman. Thought Cameron Diaz looked stiff and her hair was atrocious. Jennifer Lopaz has pretty well covered all the looks over the years so I think her roman style is overdone, recycled and fashion backward. Tom Cruise looked like he was heading out to the bank in his suit, Jack Nicholas looked interesting bald and Helen Mirron looked classicly stunning. I found Deneuve too matronly looking - the Oscars deserve some flash - just not the sort of flash that Sally Kirland was showing - that was way too much.

I thought Forrests wife looked beautiful and her personality seemed to fit her gown. Jada Pinkett Smith could stand to gain a few pounds.
