When it comes to developing culture, the dub environment is somehow very hostile and sterile for such human activity. It's as if the powers that be do not want R&F dubs to become outstanding in something in case they would get ecclipsed by ceasing to be the centre of attention, losing prestige to people outside their narrow circle. Also a dictatorial ambience always causes cultural expression to be suppressed the two simply don't mix.

I bought my JW daughter a beautiful and expensive cello when she was in school and she was very good at playing it. When she grew up, I think she sold it or it's setting in some closet. Too much time was needed for the all important meetings and field service!

In WatchtowerWorld(tm) such a talent would be stifled, yes crushed. In that world, talent is crushed, stifled and in short, not allowed to grow or bloom.
How many wonderfully talented people could the world have been blessed with had they not been JWs?! their hidden talents have gone/will go to the grave.

Greetings Farkel,
Would anyone like to tell me what talented people or especially world-class talented people (I mean, GOD runs that Corporation, fer heaven's sake) the WTS has ever produced due to their own nurturing because they care about nurturing talent and people who have it?
Not one. Perhaps watchtower is saving that for the "New System"(tm).

This is one thing that makes me sad about the organization; how it stifles human potential. I know and knew so many brilliant, talented people growing up who will never realize that potential. Even now, those I know who've left seem to be held back in some innate way. I see it in myself at times, even though I am loathe to admit it, that I do not live up to my personal potential. I get close to greatness then it seems that old hardwiring in my head recoils and says "you don't deserve this". I mean, this is pretty universal to the human experience, but JW's are especiallly stifling to the unfolding of the Self and all the potential therein.

Magoo...the folks you listed were either on the fringes, or became jw after the fact....not that it matters...the wt has, since the days of Rutherford, crushed talent...jw's are beasts of burden for the all mighty fds...one can, I suppose, develop wt talent and rise in the ranks...a putrid life to say the least..

Extraordinary talent of the type you are referring to (Rachmaninoff) is difficult to stifle. It is either there or it isn't. You take a talented writer such as C.S. Lewis who after converting to Christianity, channeled his writing talents to Christian themed topics. The uber creative and talented are rarely stifled. They think differently. I don't think there were a bunch of Rachmaninoff type talented people that were stifled by their association with the WTS, however there were certainly a lot of talented people who were stifled. One of the tragedies of the extermination of so many Jews during WWII wass that there were many, many world class musicians killed for nothing.

I've enjoyed listening to your beautiful piano playing Farkel. You have so much talent that you are sharing with others. I'm sure it brings satisfaction to your soul also.
As far as Prince, Jackson, etc. they had already made a name in the world of entertainment, etc. before becoming JWs. Yes, I agree with you. There is a lot of talent in the organization that is only used to the point that the WTB&TS approves.
It is unfortunate.

What I see on this board is many very talented people who had their natural abilities squashed (after all you could learn all that after Armageddon)
That includes YOU Farkel. Your ability to turn almost any JW task into a side-splitting, mirth- inducing laughing-until-tears-are-rolling-down-your-face activity is beyond me. Far beyond me.
And while I am no musician I think your ability there is wonderful. Any chance you have From House to House back on line?
Too much lost in time and ability because a money-making machine has no love or concern for those who blindly follow

The Watchtower, at it's best, uses up talent then throws it away. I am thinking of the former Bethelites who switched the offset printing presses and modernized the business.
