Excuses exactly! I'm against an apology, it's just a way to cause more humiliation to a victim.

Justice is seemingly served in one instant. It's bittersweet. I'm glad this was found out but saddened that it won't make a difference to loyal JW's. I'm even more deeply saddened at the pain that this girl has felt and will continue to feel her entire life.

Those are excellent questions, greendawn. I am of the opinion, that due to the high regard the WT$ places on obedience, the low regard of children, and the two witness rule for any particular disfellowshipping act there is a sort of safe bubble for pedophiles to prey on children within the J-Dubs. This bubble allows for, what I believe, to be a higher percentage of pedophiles to be attracted to this "religion."
These are my personal observation, and are in no way backed up by any sort of fact or study. Not that a study would ever happen.
Tendency toward predation on minors has little to do with marital status. For the predator, predation on minors is an issue of deriving sexual gratification from exercising power and control over someone the predator perceives to be powerless. Usually, their perception is correct.
Ortiz received the maximum 12-year sentence
That's 25 yrs in the state of Texas and they're pushing for the death penalty for repeat SO's. Additionally, Texas has an express lane on death row.
