  They simply say that there was nothing wrong with the guy when the HS chose him to be an elder, but that doesn't mean he can't turn bad. They love to give the example of Judas Iscariot, siting that the HS chose him to be one of the 12 apostles, but that didn't prevent him from betraying Jesus later on.
