I have the D600 series. I have been googling all morning trying to find out if they work without the battery.

The reason? It took another dump. This time, plugged in, I hit the power button, it lights up, and then quits.

I know some work without, and some wont. If the battery is bad, and it doesnt work without it, then I guess I need a new one.

I think the battery is about 3 years old.

Any other suggestions of what may be the problem would be great!

Maybe you should plug your laptop at the same place as you plug your lightbulb....

Other than the battery, it could perhaps be a faulty heat sensor.

Or could be a recalled battery:

I have the same laptop (courtesy of the company), and was told that they don't make it anymore!

Does yours run, if you plug it in, and take out the battery? If it does, then the battery isnt the problem.

I don't know... I always leave the battery in. I heavily rely on the power cord.

I just tried a D600 with the ac adaptor and no battery. It ran, no problem.

Lonely, are you on it now? Could you possibly pull out the battery to see if it still goes? (not sure if your at home or work)

Read this from the link above, no wonder it kept freezing up on me!

While the standard USB mouse was simply supposed to plug in a work, my system crashed more times than I could count - completely freezing up upon plugging the mouse in.
