Could someone please post the verbatim 'purpose' of the Awake mag (inside front cover) and also the one that was in there for years before the 1995 generation change article.

I know there are two differenet 'purposes' just like the baptism questions were changed.

    I'd really appreciate it.

lisa, from the may 22, 2001 awake:

"Why Awake! is published. Awake! is for the enlightenment of the entire family. It shows how to cope with today's problems. It reports the news, tells about people in many lands, examines religion and science. But it does more. It probes beneath the surface and points to the real meaning behind current events, yet it always stays politically neutral and does not exalt one race above another. Most important, this magazine builds confidence in the Creator's promise of a peaceful and secure new world that is about to replace the present wicked, lawless system of things"

    hope this helps

Thanks Harmony. Now, could someone post the OLD purpose of the Awake mag? The one that mentions 1914?

    From the "New Meaning"

yet it always stays politically neutral

How does an organization stay "politically neutral" and put positive articles about the United Nations in their Awake! magazine?

Do they put in articles praising the Taliban?
    Communist China?
    Democratic/Republican United States?
    Neutral countries?
The positive aspects of the wars between nations - explaining those nations viewpoints?

The only way an organization could stay politically neutral would be not to speak about any group - or give all groups the same coverage. The WTBTS is not doing that. The WTBTS is lying. What a revelation.

Thanks, Lisa. The WTBTS will hang by their own words, sooner or later.

Perhaps they should add that the purpose of the Awake! magazine is to dispense information about the UN and promote it's charter. A footnote at the bottom could explain that the WBTS has aligned itself with the United Nations as an Non-Governmental Association associated with the Department of Public Information since 1991.

Rem, side thought here--you might be onto something...

Waiting, I've tried to explain this to my sis and since I threw away all of my old mags, it's hard.

She's in disbelief. Been da'd 6 years, didn't even know about the 1995 generation change, you know, the 'one sentence donctrine change....'

Trying to help her and any newbies.

    Hello LDH,

a good question and I hope that someone

Excellent thought...TRUE! Could you post your suggestion,

as it is in line with the topic, in the thread : United Nations

NGO's and the WTBS ". I'm sure that many more will agree with

    you.

    WHY "AWAKE!" IS PUBLISHED

AWAKE! is for the enlightenment of the entire family. It shows how to cope with today's problems. It reports the news, tells about people in many lands, examines religion and science. But it does more. It probes beneath the surface and points to the real meaning behind current events, yet it always stays politically nuetral and does not exalt one race over another.

Most importantly, this magazine builds confidence in the Creator's promise of a peaceful and secure new world before the generation that saw the events of 1914 passes away.

Presumably the Awake! of 1990 was published for those who remembered 1914 whereas the 2001 issues are for the 'others'.

Perhaps they will soon announce a 1914 rememberance class and a cannot remember class!

Don't laugh, there's crazier things been done already!

    Cheers,

    Thanks, Kristen and PLH.

Unbe-weave-able! With one sentence they wipe out the importance of the 1914 doctrine.

I will forward both to my sister. If she can't see THIS, she doesn't want to.
