As we grow older

As time passes and you grow older and more mature how does your life or your outlook on life and one or other issue change?

I was thinking yesterday how silly it was to fall in love with a girl, focus exclusively on her and run the risk of serious disappointment and trauma if she left when there were so many other women in the world. When you had no marriage or children to worry about. I wasn't enlightened enough to say why be so childishly fixated on one person.

Things also change as one grows older and gains respect from younger people due to age.

I think I've realised that being attached to people or things too much results in heartache.

I think that my priorities in life will never change.

Seeking God, and being nice to other people.

My views on a lot of things have changed over the years. I think the biggest one for me is my belief in myself. When I was in high school, I wanted to be a writer/cartoonist/graphic artist/creative genius. Even though I showed a lot of talent back then, especially in the drawing field, I was convinced that reaching these goals would be all but impossible for me. I felt that you had to know the right people or be from the right family to make it big in these or any field.

I had read stories of those who came from very humble beginnings and made a name for themselves, but again, I felt these were exceptional people and so that didn't apply to little ole me.

What I now suspect, however, is that almost any dream is reachable if you are willing to put forth the effort. In other words, I didn't need to have the right conditions for my dreams (wealthy family, well-connected friends, etc), I needed to make the right conditions for my dreams.

I look back and wished I did more. Now with age and other priorities there just isn't enough time.

Type Dianne Legro on a google line and click on Lady of Broadway. Dianne and I graduted high school together. It was her dream to be on Broadway when she was in first grade. She always sang Somewhere over the rainbow and many times on a television show called Community Auditions. She did make her dreams come true.

No being overly attached to the wrong people or things is what results in heartache.

Nice differentiation Xena - I completely agree!

I've gotten more patient with age. As a youth I was very impulsive and wanted things now and right away. With time and experience I've seen that greater results come from taking the time to make a decision.

I don't take things too seriously now, I try not to let people and events drag me down.

I'm not sure whether it's age related or whether it's because I'm managing to finally put all the bad stuff from my past behind me - whichever it is, I feel good
