What would we like them to do? What would we do in their shoes?

My parents are still 'in' and in their late sixties. Dad still window cleaning of course. My two brothers and sister, who all left years before me, tell me it's not worth kicking away our parents 'comfort zone' at this stage in their lives.

    On a side issue:

First of all, I am somewhatdismayed that your sibs believe there is a cut-off date for your folks being able to handle the truth about the 'troof.' And second of all, that it is late sixties! Maybe your folks would like to enjoy life a bit while they still can instead of hauling their wrinkled old asses to the KH three times a week and out in FS.

Okay - had to get that off my chest - carry on.

    Hi

    Thanks Bizzybee.

I suppose they're (my sibilings) thinking is it right to have a confrontation with our parents after they've spent most of their adult life believing this rubbish. Do we go around and tell every Mormon , Catholic or born again that their whole belief system is a crock of horse manure (my own personal belief).

As far as I can see a lot of people with a religious belief derive a sense of well being from it. My original question is with specific regard to JW's but I suppose it could apply to Muslims Hindus and followers of the Mickey Mouse Fan Club.

Do we tell them, if so how or not at all?

    Thanks

We were in their shoes in many respects, and we did the courageous thing--told the truth, corrected our lives, and repaired our souls. I can't imagine I would have taken a different path if I was an elderly man at Bethel instead of a teenage pioneer upstate.

Hello Thomas, What I think is happening is there is an ebb and tide, a comming and going. When those in the organization see the light that gets brighter and brighter they extracate themselves from the borg. At the same time there is a new crew of neophites looking for something to give meaning to their misserable lifes so they become the new workers. Maybe this flow will change with the availability of information. But today there appears to be enough lost ignorant technologically deprived suckers to keep it going for at least another week.

As far as helping your parents. It depends on your motivation. And it depends on their motivation. All behavior comes from within. People act out their needs. The witlesses are holding out a carrot before your parents that they need. The world in general holds out a carrot that you need. Does the carrot you are chasing motivate you to try to get your parents to change their carrot? If so then you have to try to plant motivation from within your parents. (Reverse brainwashing, deprogramming) Religion and spiritual matters tend to be intangible. So your faced with having a pissing contest of your boogie men verses their boogie men. If you believe in boogie men. If you believe in evolution what does it matter?
