I had no idea race cars could turn to the right? :P~

I didn't think anybody did say that blacks could not drive; thats just ITV hyping it all up again, like they do with any sport. Black, white, makes no difference to me.

To be honest Crumpet, in my opinion F1 has gone downhill in recent years, it all seems so automated and not enough excitement.

The Redneck NASCAR fans here are stunned that Pablo Montoya is a good driver, or that Toyotas are good cars to race.

    Yay!

    Yes, disappointing for Jenson Button.

Crumpet, are you going to Silverstone? :)

Once upon a time I watched F1 religiously. Now with my 70 something channels on cable, I never get it.

I've only been watching for the last 8 years so I don't know what it was like before so I am not sure what you mean by automated exactly? I would say its been less exciting though since ferrari and Michael Schumaccer eclipsed all the others cars and drivers to such an extent. This year should be much more exciting since Michael has retired and opens the way for some new younger drivers and some new records. Also I should say that its not ITV who came up with that title - it was me - I thought it sounded catchy! Zico - no chance of me going to Silverstone - unless I meet someone with a helicopter - its impossible to get in there. I'd love to go to Monaco though! I know that course the best from my Play Station racing - GT3 - LOL! (Jeez I sound like a total boy now). This is the first time I have actually started betting as well which should make it more exciting too! Downside I used to watch on Sunday afternoons with Mr C and we had a special tradition during the adverts which I will have to pursue alone now.

    Hi Crumpet.

Yes I was up in the early hours of this morning watching the qualifying, as I have done for lord knows how many years.

Formula one is fascinating because it is the pinacle of technical achievement in the automotive world. The very best engineers in the world work in aviation on formula 1 - period.

I have always been a massive fan of Ron Dennis and McLaren, so I'm delighted with Alonso driving for them and of course the remarkable progress of Lewis Hamilton. He seems to have such a wise head on his shoulders, you just could not tell that this is his first ever formula 1 race. McLaren have done a fantastic job in preparing him for what is ahead - they are the most professional of all the teams in my opinion. Having said that, I will be surprised (pleasantly so) if Lewis finishes the race.

I'm going to Silverstone this year - first time for ages. I've got start/finish line grandstand seats for all three days - can't wait!!!!!

    Hi Crumpet,

sorry, I thought you were referring to the ITV run-up to the season show shown last week. It all centered around our new best friend.

As for F1 being automated, I just find it real boring now, since there is no action compared to the old days. Too much health and safety taking away the thrill of the sport. With Schumi retiring, there are no greats left in F1. Gone are the days when Mansell and Senna were pushing each other off the track. They may as well place speed limits around the track.

I think it lost a lot with the departure of Murray Walker, although nobody could help that.

Excellent! I didnt, but I plan to for the main race - it starts at 3am so its gonna be an early morning! I'll keep you company - and lucky you getting grandstand seats!

Needproof - I know what you mean about the health and safety - I have to say I hate seeing people hurt though! It thrills me to see the crashes of course, and they still happen, just less frequently. And I am relieved that mostly they get out without a scratch. Like South African Beef says - its testament to the technology and engineering and thats something I really admire.
