When you analyze Jesus' parables, you will find that it was always the "evil slave" and the "foolish virgins" that had made presumptuous calculations as to the timing of the Lord's return.

I find it ironic that this "Faithful and Wise Steward" can so easily shrug off it's own responsibilities and personal accountability when considering it's own history of making very bold, presumptuous proclamations as to dates and time tables.

When Rutheford felt ashamed of making predictions about the end of this system; saying that he "made an ass of himself", he completely missed the point. The issue was so much larger than his own wounded ego. This was about an organization which proclaimed itself to be God's mouthpiece making presumptuous statements which seriously undermined the credibility of the Bible. Many jaded people walked away from this fiasco asking themselves: "If we can't trust the 'faithful slave"; who can we trust?"

    Heathen,

It was 1919 when Rutherford reaffirmed that Russell had been the faithful and wise steward. It wasn't until 1931 that the identity of the faithful and discreet slave directly changed in dogma.

That's right, the faithful and discreet slave chosen in 1919 didn't even know about their selection as such until 1931. How's that for poor communication? God's channel must have been static in the early years.

Well, if a thousand years is like a day to Jehovah, 12 years must be like a few seconds. The FDS had to be patient and wait on Jehovah to clear that up.

    Dark Frosty,

Snail mail is indeed faster. I mean they claimed 1874 and it took them to 1943 to get the message "clear" that it should have been 1914. So actually the divine postoffice runs at 1000/69= 14.5 D-days. I wonder how that relates to God revealing his business to his prophets before he does something.....

@general.....well: according to the new organised book, they are the ones who got appointed over all the masters belongings including our asses. In that respect they have been very faithful. There does not escape them one week to point out how they must be obeyed.

They have been "discreet" as well. How many WT secrets do you know? For instance, they have been very good at hiding their financial situation and how they are running there books.....

"Slave"....I have a bit of a problem applying this property to those guys. I cannot help but think of two bible verses: 1Co 4:8 You are already satisfied; you already became rich; you reigned without us (and oh that you really did reign, so that we also might reign with you!)
1Co 4:9 For I think that God set us out last, the apostles, as appointed to death, because we became a spectacle to the world, even to angels and to men.
1Co 4:10 We are fools for the sake of Christ, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are honored, but we not honored.
1Co 4:11 Until the present hour we also hunger and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and wander homeless,
    1Co 4:12 and labor, working with our own hands. Being cursed, we bless; persecuted, we bear;
1Co 4:13 being defamed, we entreat. We have become as filth of the world, dirt wiped off by all until now.
and Pro 30:21 The earth quakes under three things; yea, it is not able to bear up under four:
Pro 30:22 Under a servant when he reigns, and a fool when he is filled with food,
Pro 30:23 under a hated one when she is married, under a slave-girl when she is heir to her mistress.
    Cheers

    *** w97 6/1 13-14 A Secret Christians Dare Not Keep! ***
7 In contrast with humans, who have a limited life span, Jehovah never feels pressured by time to reveal his secrets prematurely. This fact should prevent us from becoming impatient when certain Bible questions cannot presently be explained to our satisfaction. Modesty on the part of the faithful and discreet slave class, commissioned to provide the Christian household with food at the proper time, prevents it from presumptuously running ahead and wildly speculating about things that are still unclear. The slave class strives to avoid being dogmatic. It is not too proud to admit that as of now it cannot answer every question, keeping Proverbs 4:18 clearly in mind. But how thrilling to know that Jehovah, in his own due time and in his own way, will continue to reveal his secrets as to his purposes! Never should we become impatient with Jehovah’s arrangement, indiscreetly trying to rush ahead of the Revealer of secrets. How reassuring it is to know that the channel Jehovah is using today does not do so! It is both faithful and discreet.—Matthew 24:45; 1 Corinthians 4:6.

(Proverbs 26:12) Have you seen a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for the stupid one than for him.

    Enough said.

Excellent, Shadow. Good to see you posting.

They say the faithful and discreet slave would be characterized by the exact opposite of what they were doing when Jesus supposedly chose them.

Nice one, the FDS of the JWs are exactly the opposite of what they claim to be in that article. I don't know how any JW could fail to see the irony in it, the GB are a very dogmatic lot making wild speculations that often mess up the lives of many of their followers. And what kind of food do they provide to the R&F, and what proof is there that they were commissioned by Christ to be channels of knowledge and instruction. Isn't that word channel borrowed from the occultic spirit mediums who channel demonic energies? Didn't Rutherford and Woodworth claim that they were receiving religious and other knowledge direct from angels? Finally how do they know that the food provided by the FDS means knowledge and not things like loving support, emotional rather than intellectual food?

The slave is so "discreet" the WTS doesn't even know who they are.

    Excellent. Here's another one:

(2 Corinthians 10:18) For it is not he who commends himself that is approved, but he whom the Lord commends.
