    Main Entry: faith·ful
    Function: adjective
1 obsolete : full of faith
2 : steadfast in affection or allegiance : LOYAL
3 : firm in adherence to promises or in observance of duty : CONSCIENTIOUS
    4 : given with strong assurance : BINDING <a faithful promise>
5 : true to the facts, to a standard, or to an original <a faithful copy>

Do they faithfully adhere to promises? No.

Do they speak true to facts, to a standard, or to an original? No.

Are they steadfast in affection or allegiance? No.

Are they firm in adherence to promises or in observance of duty? No.

Are they full of faith? Assuming that someone full of faith would also be characterized by the other points, no.

    Main Entry: dis·creet
    Function: adjective
1 : having or showing discernment or good judgment in conduct and especially in speech : PRUDENT; especially : capable of preserving prudent silence
2 : UNPRETENTIOUS, MODEST <the warmth and discreet elegance of a civilized home -- Joseph Wechsberg>
    3 : UNOBTRUSIVE, UNNOTICEABLE <followed at a discreet distance>

Was it showing good judgment to announce that Christ came invisibly in 1874, was enthroned in 1878, and that the final battle of Armageddon was due in 1914? Even if Jesus' parousia began in 1914 (which it did not) was it showing discernment to falsely declare His arrival some 40 years too soon so that no one who believed you would be looking for Him to arrive when he actually showed up?

Is it modest and unpretentious to declare yourselves as God's sole channel of communication with the world without one shred of evidence to support your claim?

Is it unobtrusive to meddle in almost every aspect of a person's life, pushing your own interpretation of God's will as the only valid one and almost utterly removing the operation of conscience on the individual? Is it unnoticeable to be properly branded as the religion with the most failed prophecies in history?

In every respect the Governing Body has proved itself anything but a slave of God, anything but faithful, and anything but discreet. But the blind keep believing that the Governing Body has fulfilled Matthew 24:45-47 (which was only a question, not a prophecy) and that they form the leadership group of the modern-day faithful and discreet slave class.

Isn't it a shame that they are so blind?

The Watchtower leaders better fit the description of the "wicked servant" who says to himself "My master is staying away a long time, and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards." (Mt. 24:48,49)

Not only were Russell and Rutherford disappointed that they weren't raptured to be with Christ, but they set in motion the policies that eventually evolved into treating their "fellow servants" with contempt and cruelty. It seems that this circumstance always follows the disappointment of Christ's anticipated return. Look how the Society treated former members after the failure of the 1975 fiasco.

Of course Rutherford ate and drank with drunkards. He was a drunkard. And a faithful one at that, even during prohibition. He was most certainly was a slave to it as well. Discreet? Well having a big mouth and driving two of the most expensive cars during the depression, it's kind of hard. But hey 2 out of three ain't bad!

I think it was 1918 when they declared themselves the FDS. Jesus allegedly took 3 years to determine which religious group was his channel of communication. As far as the rapture is concerned they believe that happens invisibly at the time of death of the 144k . It's amazing how religions can just make all sorts of claims that can't be verified but their history can be made to look like the symbolic stuff in Revelation . They use the 2 witness scripture to show how they were killed off and then came to life by the US government shutting them down over sedition in WW1 then the charges being dropped and how the catholic church was actually behind it by bribing the court. But you are right , faithful and discreet does not seem to fit their discription. Even tho discreet also means to be watchful on all sides like a watchman or watchtower. They are strange in that they continue to alter their dogma and really show their lack of discernmet by doing that , yet boast to have hidden knowledge of Gods will .

    Heathen,

It was 1919 when Rutherford reaffirmed that Russell had been the faithful and wise steward. It wasn't until 1931 that the identity of the faithful and discreet slave directly changed in dogma.

That's right, the faithful and discreet slave chosen in 1919 didn't even know about their selection as such until 1931. How's that for poor communication? God's channel must have been static in the early years.

    Respectfully,

First of all there are sheep and there are sheep that conceal ravenous wolves underneath that have no pity for the flock. The actions of the presidents and GB of the JWs surely marks them out as the being latter. They are control weirdos on a power trip making claims that are laughably false. Above all they want total control and marginalisation/subordination of everyone else, including the superior (according to them) "anointed" JWs. When Jesus talked about the FDS he had in mind the archetypal image of the ideal Christian that put ahead the interests of the brotherhood before his own, an archetype existing throughout time and not just at the time of the end. It links well with: those that will be greatest in the kingdom will be the humblest, least self seeking servants of the brotherhood in this life.

When I first revealed doubts to the elders, I tried to say that a "discreet" slave would wait
silently until he knew that what he said was absolutely correct. If they believed that the
generation of 1914 was going to live until the end, but they could be wrong, then they would
have been silent, or at least said that this is something they are unsure of.

I can't really relate the answers I received because they were just doublespeak. Something
along these lines- "They are so anxious to see the new system start that they advanced their
understanding." "You mean they ran ahead of Jehovah's clear revealing of the truth?" "No, they
are not infallible." "But they said this was God's promise. Doesn't that mean they were saying
that God revealed THIS information to them?" It went on like that- getting them to reach into
    more and more doublespeak.

I read a WT article (with these brothers) that discussed the light getting brighter. The article said
as dawn approaches, a person sees a building. He doesn't learn until the light gets brighter whether
it's the barn or the house, he doesn't learn until the light gets brighter that it's color is red. I said,
"Couldn't the observer say it could be a red barn, but I am not sure? I will let you know. But the
Governing Body rarely says it could be something, or something else. They stated things like
"this generation" as facts that came from God revealed to them. Is that discreet?"
