Kaput:There are many Orders and many Societies. The Freemasons are perhaps just the best known and most demonised.
BR25:
Many holidays come from people starting to party due to liberation from one regime or another. Not all holidays have pagan origins. For that matter most ritualistic practises stem from times when people were mostly what we would now call "pagan". Is that how you define a pagan practise? If so then why do you still worship predominantly on a Sunday morning and Thursday Evening, where possible?You really should do some unblinkered studying of the subject, preferably without a WT volume to hand...

LT, you said, "Yup - the Knights Templar are not exclusively Masonic, either."
Would you elaborate on the other organizations the Knights Templar are affiliated with? In the meantime,give this following Masonic source some attention;
http://www.tngrandyorkrite.org/grandcommandery/whatiskt.php
What is Knight Templary?
The fourth, and last, of the York Rite Bodies of Masonry, Commanderies of Knights Templar serves as the crowning glory in completing the Christian Path towards Masonic Light. This is the only recognized Masonic Body that has religious connotations, since it is based on the Christian Religion and virtues. As a consequence, while not all Masons will become Knight Templars, every Christian Mason should to complete his Masonic journey. Today's Knight Templar is a man dedicated to the living Christ, and the defense of the virtues contained in the practices observed by all true Christians.
You may also want to consider the information in the following Masonic links;

Again I state that you are concentrating on Masonic Knights Templarism. The Freemasons have incorporated this into the higher degrees of the York Rite (but not the Scottish Rite, which is a different path). They are not, however, the originators of it. Templarism is alive and well, with and without adjunct organisations. An example of this would be OSMTH.
You are evidently aware of this fact, so why are you obfuscating the issue?

The crux of the matter, in my mind, is that just because someone uses symbols, terminology, etc. most frequently associated with a certain group, does not automatically make that person a member of that group.

Lt,
You said,"Again I state that you are concentrating on Masonic Knights Templarism." This is true and there is a good reason for this! This is because the cross and crown symbol as well as the knight in armour symbols as found on the early Watchtowers bear resemblance to the Masonic Knights Templar symbols; specifically the Knights Templar organization affiliated with the MasonicYork Rite organization,and also the Masonic Order of Demolay organization.Your reference to the apparantly non-Masonic Knights Templar organization called OSMTH proves nothing because the symbols CT Russell used are not patterned after any of the symbols associated with OSMTH,to my knowledge. The whole theme of this discussion centres on the possible association of CT Russell to Freemasonry. Your bringing in information that is irrevelant tends to confuse the issue.Daystar,
You said this,"The crux of the matter, in my mind, is that just because someone uses symbols, terminology, etc. most frequently associated with a certain group, does not automatically make that person a member of that group." You are entitled to your opinion,as I am entitled to mine.That is the nice thing about freedom of speech!

So, what you're saying is that your opinion is that if a person uses symbols, terminology, etc., associated with a certain group, that that person must be a member of that group?
Is this what you are saying?

You can't even argue with a jw about what they believed 10 years ago. They just blow it off and say "new light" or ignore it. They are used to being sandbagged and blindsided by their own religion. Now you want to come up with something that is pretty shaky to begin with and was over 100 years ago?
Please don't discuss this stuff with witnesses it will only make us look crazy!
