Hey, if there are no more dollar bills, and you don't want to carry coins, you'll just have to start tipping fives!

First of all, brother, that's what I'm afraid of.

Secondly, that ain't gonna happen. They are lucky to get the one's.

Being in a industry that tipping is a good chunk of my salary I hope you rot in your gods hell. And that the raise in the minimum wage prices you out of what you do that involves tipping. I wish we would do what europe does they just pay a living wage and to hell with tips.

I thought perhaps, that the fact that most of the people doing their own banking don't read or write well enough to do it on their own, might tweak a few souls. I find that fact extremely disturbing....the USA is consistently falling behind in so many things and education/abilities is just another. How will we possibly compete with the rest of the world when the majority in the country are illiterate? I think it's a foolish move for a government to waste money trying to get it's population to switch their currency away from paper to coin, since they should be obligated to look for ways to save money and act on it. They should simply give everyone a date to comply with (vending machines etc) and then act on it. Money is money - millions saved over the long run and remove the choice. sammieswife.

5go, you deserve everything you get.....................or everything you don't get. Move to Europe, since you need 'mom' to take care of you. I tip MORE than 15% at places where I get decent service. NOTICE I DIDN'T SAY 'GOOD' SERVICE, JUST DECENT. By the way, it's ALWAYS in cash, so the credit card companies don't take any of it. You think someone owes you a living. Go to hell. Warlock

And perhaps the vending machine industry as well - it would a big $$$ effor to to convert machines to accept dollar coins instead of dollar bills.

Not really. It's a fairly easy job to change vending machines to take different coins. We changed our entire currency here five years ago and it went off without a hitch. It's much more difficult to get vending machines to accept notes. Few machines in Europe do.

The unnatural attachment Americans seem to feel for their dollar bill may well be due to their extraordinary predilection for tipping. It's probably better for tipper and tippee if the tips are in note rather than coin form - especially in a strip club, those g-strings can only take so much weight.

The bigger problem with American currency is the strange fact that all the notes are the same size and colour. I've no idea why Americans are opposed to resolving this peculiar issue. Perhaps they don't like being able to tell at a glance how much money they have in their wallet, or maybe they hate blind people. Who knows!

And the problem with that would be?

Oh yeah...I forgot about that too! I know in Canada that the money is color coded, so at a glance you know exactly what denomination the bill is...in addition to it being user friendly for the vision impaired. I'm not sure about other countries, but I know in Canada the bills are produced so that the blind can easily distinguish which bill they need and the numbers on it are clear and large so that they are read easily. All the money here is the same - same color, same size...now..they did mention here that they might be introducing some sort of lettering to assist the blind but this is not a country as noted in above comments - where all the people desire to take care of others at a cost to themselves. All I know is that a buck is a buck - if you tip a dollar then it doesn't matter if the dollar is coin or bill - if you tip a $1.25...you still use a dollar regardless of the type and put a quarter in with it. To my way of thinking if you want to tip and think that using a coin is too much, then tip lower.....and for the working girls.....twisting around the poles in those fancy places....you can tip them a 5 or a 10...or throw a coin on stage..money is money and it's all good ..................sammieswife.

I honestly don't mind the $1 and $2 coins. If my purse gets a bit heavy, the coins go into a jar, and that extra change really adds up. But it's pretty easy to get rid of those extra coins at the store, it really is not the problem people make it out to be. Now, as far as the strippers go, sorry can't comment on that one.

When they were fazing out the bills - the bank would actually call our office to see if we were making a deposit of coins that day (we'd get alot of coins), because they had to surrender any bills that they received, and just deal with the coins, so for a while they were always short until there were enough in circulation.

It was not that difficult for the vending machine companies to modify their machines, and now pretty much all of them take both the $1 and $2 coins.

Our bills have been changed recently and now they have braille on them for the visually impaired, so even if they can't see enough to distinguish the colour, they can feel for the braille.

There is even braille on our ATM's. That one has me a bit stumped, because there is no sound, so I can't figure out how the braille helps in that situation , unless there is a person there that can read the screen for them.

I have had $1.00 coins and am quite sure I as well as the vendor has overlooked them for quarters at certain times. I know they are a different color and a bit bigger than a quarter but It has happened.
