The Italian Police acted like hooligans and savagely beat the british. Show me a beaten Italian, please that was attacked by the police last night. I haven't seen one yet.

Gill - Since this is a holy day, I will extend my forgiveness to you lol!
I was listening to Talk Sport radio and the presenters mentioned another factor about a lot of the European football grounds which facilitates the 'riot/stampede' mentality - the fact that many grounds don't have proper seats - just the bench and bucket type as in Rome. all it needs is for one small minority to start jumping over these and a whole larger section does likewise. This would also make it more difficult for the police to work out who the real trouble causers are - all they see is a stampede.
Remember this was the initial reaction of our own police at Hillsborough until they realised that a real tragedy was unfolding before them, they were filmed using batons to stop fans from climbing over the fencing to escape
With proper seating as there now is in most large UK grounds, it is more difficult for pockets of hooligans to cause stampedes and therefore easier for the police to pick them out and remove them, especially if cctv is being used too.
