Maybe this has been talked about already, but the thought occured to me as to whether or not the boorish behavior commented on annually during the District Convention part during the Service Meeting. Did these sorts of things happen? If you were on the Rooming Committee, I would love to know if this can be verified or busted.

*** km 4/04 p. 5 Be Holy in All Your Conduct ***
[Although the WTS says this] One manager of a hotel used by convention delegates last year said: "Jehovah’s Witnesses were such nice people to have here. . . . You are the type of people we want."
[The WTS then makes the following list of some of the "boorish" behaviors that occur often enough to be put in the KM for all JWs to read..not just one or two]
Observing the following reminders will help us to maintain our good reputation: (1) Do not reserve more rooms than will actually be needed, and do not have more people stay in your room than allowed. (2) If you must cancel your reservation, notify the hotel immediately. (3) Take a luggage cart only when you are ready to use it. (4) Do not cook in noncooking rooms. (5) Leave a tip for the housekeeper each day. (6) Do not abuse any complimentary breakfast, coffee, and ice provisions that are made available for guests to use whiletheyareatthehotel. (7) Display the fruitage of the spirit in dealing with the hotel staff, especially during very busy check-in and checkout times.—Gal. 5:22, 23....
However, in a few cases, unsupervised children have been observed swimming, playing in elevators, talking loudly, and running in hallways. Parents should not allow their children to be let on the loose but should monitor them to ensure that their conduct brings praise to Jehovah.—Prov. 29:15.
Then there are the JWs that hog the pool, send their children or teenagers unchaperoned or unsupervised. I have watched these "holy" children smart off to the non-JW adults also staying there, as well as the managing staff.
How about the empty liquor bottles and beer cans the maids take out of the holy ones rooms?

Every year we get reminded to be on our best behavior in the hotels, restaurants, etc. etc.
Now we get reminded that tipping (in the U.S.) your server at a restaurant is a common and accepted custom!
I've always taken this to mean that there are problems every year that get back to the big boys.

Maybe I was raised differently. My parents were in their mid-30s when I came into the picture, but I was not allowed to run around like some wild banshee (no disrespect intnded to the fine Irish persons that may read this). I was always taught to be respectful of others, especially non-Dubs during our visits to the various Convention cities. I never saw either of my parents act rudely or not leave a tip at the hotel or any restaurant we frequented. In fact, my father, always made it a point to make sure that the tip was taken care of, either be asking for more, or covering it himself.
Again, I don't know if this was par for the course, and the GB was just making up stories to browbeat the R&F, or if these things happened on a regular basis. That is why I asked for comments form persons that sat on the Convention Rooming Committees.

There were 3 big problems I remember.
Leaving magazines as a tip was a biggie.
Another was someone renting a room and then relatives and friends in those old Winnebago's and Station Wagons out in the parking lot, coming in and using the bathrooms, pool, etc. ..... There was a lot of that going on. The Witnesses new how to pack a hotel room!
The last was if there was a complimentary breakfast, various J-dubs would take advantage by taking anything that was transportable for the sessions and popping it into their bags. Such as fruit, small cereal boxes, danishes, etc.
Incredible!

So X, you think the WTS makes up the quotes I put from the KM?
I worked in rooming and with the brother in charge for 20 years. Actually, the stories in the KM don't begin to tell everything that happens. It was hard to negotiate with certain hotels because of the previous year's JW customers.
Imagine having 200 JWs and 50% doing one or more of the above?
I have stayed at hotels where JWs were staying for a convention; I was just traveling. Kids were running around the halls knocking on doors and then running back to their room, at 2 in the am. Where were mom and dad? Still out partying on a Saturday night.
Imagine not being a JW and staying at a hotel with JWs at a convention who hog the pool, leave their kids there unsupervised, kids using the elevators like toys, and then when management tells them to stop, using language that "christian" children shouldn't use. I even had such "christian" children mouth off to me, knowing I too was a JW.
Even if only 20 out of the 100 were rude, inconsiderate, that was 20 too many.
It is amazing how the "christlike" personalities of JWs deteriorates when they are away from home, fairly anonymous.
Back to my friend in rooming...he spent most of his time trying to mend the bridges broken by the inconsiderate behavior of JWs.
I remember that one brother told me the real reason the food arrangement ended was that JWs would take "free" food and waste it. They would find it with a bite or sip taken out of it and dumped in the trash. Children/teenagers would go to the food stands and load up on food with nary a parent in sight.

Honestly, Blondie, I did think that this stuff was made up in order to keep the R&F beaten down. However, thanks for sharing. I guess I was "priviledged" to be raised be parents that never were tolerant of that sort of behavior when I was growing up.
Thanks for sharing.

I remember going on a Carribian Vacation with a group of JW`s..We were given a few cases of rum as a gift when we got to the hotel..Everyone was to be given a bottle of Rum..A few good Elders were greedy and took more than thier share. So some JW`s didn`t get thier Rum gift.....There were fruit trees on the hotel property. You could go out and pick fresh fruit for breakfast, compliments of the hotel..One elder went out there with a shopping bag and stripped a tree bare of all the fruit..Real Classey..LOL!!.....There was a Street Scam the locals were aware of it and I was warned..Someone would come up to you, tell you a jewlery store had been robbed and they could sell you gold bracelets for cheap..The bracelets were actually brass, they were shown to you in a towel,as sweat would tarnish the gold colour..When I went to town I was offered the bogus gold bracelets..I could have a pair for $150.00..A cop came our way and the scammer started to freak out..I offered him $6.00 for the pair and he was happy to take it..LOL!!..When I got back to the hotel an elder told me about the great deal he got for a pair of gold bracelets..He was able to barter the sales person down to $50.00 each(Never mentioning he was told the bracelets were stolen..LOL!!).He paid $100.00 for a pair of brass bracelets he thought were stolen gold bracelets..LOL!!..I could tell you a whole lot more, but I`ll save it for another time.....Most JW`s need to be babysat away from the Kingdom Hall. They don`t know how to behave when thier on thier own..LOL!!...OUTLAW

I remember 1991 when I went to the convention with friends and we were out at the restaurant afterwards. We were all laughing and having a good time and then these girls came over and squeezed into our booth. Everyone could tell I was not impressed so that ended quick. The one of the guys I was with in the course of his having fun got up, started dancing and singing "Come on baby light my fire" to that same group of girls who were obviously enjoying his little show. This restaurant was packed and many people overheard it.
