Hi all, he has had a history since prenatal sonograms when I was a few months along. The problem was not bad until just now. His last checkup just over a year ago (he has a urologist already) showed that it was IMPROVING, not worsening. We saw his urologist yesterday at 11am. He quickly determined that his UPJ obstruction needed to be corrected. It isn't URGENT, but I am not delaying for summer break. We are having the surgery done in 2 weeks from today. His urologist is actually very good. And the ER guy was alright in letting him go (though I think he should have been a little less free with his get out of the ER pass, since he really didn't have all the information. They are doing a pyeloplasty which will reshape his kidney and correct the obstruction with his ureter (tube from kidney to bladder that is causing a backup and enlarges the kidney in a bad way). Because of the athsma being so out of control and flaring up (and the weather is hell on athsmatics here this time of year), we are keeping him out of school until the surgery and for about a week after. UGH.

Thanks for the PMs, and words of encouragement! He has a serious problem, but good doctors, and excellent childrens hospital and is overall healthy and very cute:) Already bored and restless. I wish I had a staff to entertain him!

Shelly (relieved to know the problem will be solved!)

I'm glad to hear the news looks good for your little boy. Such a lot of struggles for a little guy to go through. I hope you'll let everyone know how the surgery goes.

I am doing great. Back resolved itself! Had no choice:) Brendan is enoying being home from school. I am going nuts. Its all good! So relieved that we know the problem and can fix it. I think it is a blessing. . .or lucky or whatever.

We are lucky that he felt the pain and had symptoms at a time he was AT the doctor. It helped pinpoint the problem specifically. One of the other posters had a much more difficult time of it with the hydronephrosis, so I know how it could be worse. Thanks for the kind words. . .now just to keep him occupied for 3 weeks! oy!
