Isn't the light supposed to be getting brighter?

Ask any JW about the flip-flops in doctrine, and within a few moments, you'll be hearing about Proverbs 4:18, the one about the "path getting brighter". I.e., "our understanding has increased, so we had to make an adjustment."

I was just thinking about the last major changes in JW doctrine over the past dozen years or so...does this sound like light getting "brighter"?

Old JW Teaching (taught for decades): "The generation that was alive in the year 1914 will not all die off before Armageddon begins"

New JW teaching: "The 'generation' Jesus spoke of of that 'would not pass away before Armageddon comes' is the generation alive when Armageddon comes" (reducing Jesus' prophecy to a meaningless tautology)

Old JW Teaching (taught for decades): "Blood, and any fraction thereof, must not be administered into the body in any way at all"

New JW Teaching: "'We cannot say' which blood fractions are acceptable, and which ones are not"

Old JW Teaching (taught for decades): "The 'first resurrection' began in 1918"

New JW Teaching: "That the 'first resurrection' began in 1918 is merely 'an interesting possibility' "

Old JW Teaching (taught for decades): "Since 1935, ther have been no new additions to the anointed, only replacements"

New JW Teaching: "Well, we really can't say when the 'heavenly calling' ended, or even if it has ended"

Who can help me out here? How is any of this "increased" light?

    Hi sir82,

It seems to me that the light is fading for the jws.

The changes they made re blood doctrine, generation etc are so nonsensical now that even the most knowledgable jws aren't sure what the teachings are. The generation doctrine was set in stone up to 1995, for example - those who could remember 1914 would still be alive when the new system came. Now the teaching is completely ambiguous, with no definite time period when these things may come to pass.

I imagine that any further changes they are forced to make as time runs out on their predictions will be similarly meaningless.

Never mind the Jedi knights - Winston Smith would feel right at home , re writing the stuff for Big Brother as he did in the Ministry of Truth in the book "1984"

I have been very interested in the Russell-Rutherford transition and came across this:

    http://www.pastor-russell.com/legacy/wprd.pdf

It's the Bible Students explanation of why 75% of them left after Rutherford took over. I found very interesting the references to "new light" and how the "new light" thing started (It's a long read, and to get to this particular part, go to page 9 of the pdf). I have always wondered exactly why 75% left and this document really lays it out. They didn't go along with "New light" that kept getting changed, and seems to be the reason most of them left.

This info is contained in the www.pastor-russell.com website under the last will section.

It is obvious enough that the FDS of the JWs is grossly unreliable when it comes to doctrine, the message for the R&F is that they should be careful when they demand of them to make sacrifices based on their Biblical interpretations. Eg the 1914 generation: don't go to university, don't secure your future financially, don't have children and preferably don't marry at all (under Rutherford), don't bother with charity work etc, because the 1914 generation is aging and the end is so near.

The light is getting brighter! It's become so bright that JWs are turning their heads away, trying not to look directly into it.

Holy crap that is SO true!

I used to be the 'go to guy' at the bookstudy, knew every update and new truth.

Now, I've just plain given up! It's become impossible to keep up for a lot of JWs. There actually was a meeting that I heard 5 (five) comments that were old understanding.

    CRAZY!

For most sincere witnesses they have their eyes shut, they enjoy it and truly like it like that.

I found for the majority ignorance is a blessing and they would not have it any other way.
