Why do dubs act as if 1975 wasn't failed prophesy or misleading?

Whenever the Society makes a mistake its always the witnesses fault. The Only way the Witnesses can feel that they aren't to blame is their get out of jail card - DENY DENY DENY or Accept thus leaving the Org. Everything is black and white, forget what you know. Believe the lies and our nonsense we spin and you'll be ok. Anything but positive vibes and cash for the Society from you is wrong.

To be honest any JW that decided to harbour feelings toward the Society, about the Bible or anything is already sinning. There was one Watchtower in the past 5 years that said to have your own opinion is wrong. Which is why they are almost forced to share everything, suffer for it (punishment) and then praise Jah.

Reminds me of Winston in 1984, who went through hell and back with a lot of conditioning and brainwashing.

One thing though, i do always see a glimpse of real person in every dub, a weakness in their armour which if you can get through they are completely won over. Its just getting in there. When you for example find something that they can't deny sometimes they get really curious. Partly wanting to search, partly not sure if they should. Quite sad they live half a life when there is so much more to see and do.

Usually the loudest dub who does some pretty nasty things and says nasty things and sprays themselves with apostate-repellent has the most to lose. They are afraid that the apostates could be right...why? why is that such a big deal?

Here are some sound bites from Charles Sinutko made prior to 1975 and its certainty.

I lived during that time and was not on the 1975 bandwagon...which I kept to myself except for a few relatives who agreed with me.

The Bible says that it would come at a time you think not....

I had an elder sit and lie to right to my face with my newbie wannabe jw husband. He could see my reams of info and I read him some of the more damning statements. Still he said he didn't remember anybody who jumped the gun like all the apostates say it happened. He knew of no one who sold their house........ This guy was so arrogant. The ickiest thing out of actually meeting with this clown was my wannabe jw started taking on this guys facial expressions!!! That was scary!!! I guess he must have spent alot of time with him or something for that to happen. I don't know but creeped me & kids out! That seems to have faded, I don't think he sees this guy as much.

Well, to do that would be to accept that Jehovahs wonderful spirit guided organization that holds our hand and thinks for us, isn't what it says. This would leave a terrible crisis in a persons life, imagine leaning on a pillar, and then suddenly the pillar vanishes. But, to doubt the Org or to say anything against the Org is a sin, and something you do not want to do. Its not a pleasant situation, to think that everyone who criticises Jehovahs Witnesses is an agent of Satan trying to mislead you, but that's the reality of the situation. (isn't it amazing how dubs quote the society rather than think for themselves)

It is simply, a mistake. But then, how much of Gods spirit can they have if they base their whole line and promises on a simple mistranslation of a simple word, something a schoolboy wouldn't miss ? New light though. Hang in there.

Wish I had more time for this forum . . so many interesting posts!

I was totally assimilated during that whole period and regardless of what the hive members tell you, there was a fever pitch expectation that 1975 was "it". My father sold the family farm in 71 and move to Ontario, Canada to wait out the time. Basically squandered his childrens inheritence (4 boys) slaving for the collective til 1: '75 came and went and 2: Ran out of money.

To answer the question at the top of this thread . . They act as if 1975 wasn't failed prophesy or misleading because the hive tells them 1975 wasn't failed prophesy or misleading and "We never said that anyway . . It was you, you miserable faithless pudknockers, who misinterpreted what we said".

    Peace \/

(thinking to self) The brothers say it's coming in 1975 but I don't think so. Since I don't think so, then it must be. Yes! 1975 is the end! But wait, that can't be because I think it is. Therefore it cannot be. But wait!......

My computers sometimes get caught in a loop and freeze up. When it happens to our minds we are just loopy and need to reboot also.

It's a wacky, wacky, wacky watchtower world.

Actually, the society did make a kinda, sorta back-handed apology for the mess made by 1975. Ray Franz mentioned it in Crisis of Conscience, Faced with declining numbers after 1975 the society voted to issue at least some acknowledgement of its error. This was done in the 3-15-80 Watchtower, cleverly hidden in an article entitled "Choosing the Best Way of Life" and in a convention talk with the same title:

Watchtower 3/15/80 Choosing the Best Way of Life

"In modern times such eagerness, commendable in itself, has led to attempts at setting dates for the desired liberation from the suffering and troubles that are the lot of persons throughout the earth. With the appearance of the book LifeEverlasting—inFreedomoftheSonsofGod, and its comments as to how appropriate it would be for the millennial reign of Christ to parallel the seventh millennium of man’s existence, considerable expectation was aroused regarding the year 1975. There were statements made then, and thereafter, stressing that this was only a possibility. Unfortunately, however, along with such cautionary information, there were other statements published that implied that such realization of hopes by that year was more of a probability than a mere possibility. It is to be regretted that these latter statements apparently overshadowed the cautionary ones and contributed to a buildup of the expectation already initiated"

    1980 Yearbook of Jehovah's Witneses- Pages 30-31

"The brothers also appreciated the candor of this same talk, [Choosing the Best Way of Life] which acknowledged the Society’s responsibility for some of the disappointment a number felt regarding 1975"

I was 30 in 1974. I was there, saw the parade, beat the drum, got the t-shirt.

I was born in 1975. I've always felt that I was born to my parents as sort of an 'armageddon baby'. As in, quick, lets have a baby before the Big A comes, cuz we may not

be allowed to have children in the 'new system'™
