Education and a very good job.

With a degree, being both an Engineer and Teacher, I was considered some sort of threat

One ex. Elder actually said, he was frightened of me!!

Elders are afraid of persons that are smarter than them.

Yes, they definately gave me a hard time because I was attending college. I was still able to make all the meetings, put in several hours in field service, handle the Kingdom Hall sound systems and drive the friends around in field service. All this even though I was going to college full time and working a part time job. I pushed myself constantly to never miss a beat at my congregation and to become a Ministerial Servant. I used to go full steam on 4 hours of sleep a night, every week!

But lots of "friends" turned their noses up at me. There were whispers that I was "materialistic".The elders began criticizing me on everything. My talks, the field ministry. Once I read the Watchtower at the Sunday meeting. At the end of the meeting an elder approached me and actually complained to me that I mispronounced a word!!!

All that finally led me to see the "new light" and I left.

Yes! betwixt 1 and about 13 years old ALL of the adults looked down on me. Literally!! Plus they didnt let me do microphones! pfft they thought I was too little... the jerks.

At this time I think I was discriminated against because I had no money and was not working.

Thank you for letting me vent minimus.

i was looked down on becauce i didnt drag my children kicking and screaming to all of the meetings.

my husband would not allow our children to be forced into a religion if they didnt believe it ,but now i have to admitt

that he was right all along.

Once, just before me and my lovely wife walked away for good in 1997 or so, an a$$hole elder (i could do an entire post on that narcisistic, homophobic POS) said that because I had a college degree ( I had a two year ASEE) that he was'nt intimidated by me. This same mouthbreather also was assigned to sheperd me and my wife and he asked us to study a certain chapter in some book to be reviewd when he came by. Well, my wife and I have always had a reverence for books of all kinds and NEVER marked up our study books (even though we always prepared, usually with written notes on seperate sheets of paper). This clown shows up, sees that we have not marked up our books, announce that it's obvious we weren't prepared and that we were wasting HIS time. We patiently explained our feeling about marking in books but to no avail. He left, saying that we were not instep if we did not mark up our study books.

A long time ago, in '74 or so, I had a 1970 GTO. I was very spiritual back then but also always had a love for muscle or sports cars. Had a pious elder ask me not to park it in the KH parking lot because it was not an appropriate car to have. And amazingly, I did just that. BUT, I outsmarted them, I bought a VW Bug which I drove to meetings and service and kept the Goat.

If children are not considered "well behaved", they are viewed negatively, especially if one is aspiring for servanthood. (Is there such a word?)
