  Sometimes I think that Thomas Jefferson, looking back from his C18th vantage would have cringed at some of the words he uttered, which moth-eaten and anachronistic as they are, are always proudly touted in these situations. I just wish that he had added a disclaimer to his 'right to bear arms' manifesto and added :

  Except if you are mentally disturbed, a criminal, a wannabee cowboy, a man or woman who has never quite grown up, or a malcontent who believes in the power of Marvel comics.

  That would mean that around 100 Americans would own weapons.

  It has to be noted however, that the recent firearm restrictions in Australia have not impacted the number of murders that have taken place there. The figures are still steadily rising.

  how does allowing a mentally disturbed teenager to purchase an automatic weapon contribute to a well-regulated militia?

  Aha! I think I see where all the confusion comes in betwixt European and American attitudes with respect to gun rights and the American constitution. I'm not sure if the word "regular" (root of "well regulated") has the same meaning as a physiological idiom in english speaking Europe?

  To explain, we allow mentally disturbed teenagers to purchase semi- (get it right, pinko!) automatic weapons for the very reason that it scares the shit out of us.

  We Americans have the right to own a gun and to use it when we feel it is necessary. It doesn't matter how long ago(200 yrs) or under what circumstances(colonial spat with england) a piece of paper was drafted up saying it is our God-given right as Americans to bear arms. No one, and that includes all of you morally dogooders out there, better tell us what to do because we have an old piece of paper that says we can own a gun! Nevermind if guns are used only to kill/maim other humans. IT IS OUR GOD-GIVEN RIGHT to bear arms! And our Bill of Rights says we can --- so there! We could care less about whether or not it is morally wrong to kill another human. But we do care about "protecting" ourselves from other lunatics with a gun.

  We really need to go back and follow the Old West laws. If someone draws first, you can defend yourself and shoot them too, but only if you're quicker.

  Guns or not, it's a shame we live in a country were everyone has some "diagonosis" to justify bad behavior. That being said we have raised a generation of kids who are afraid to defend themselfs.... whip a bully in grade school the bully gets medicated for his "issues" and you get expelled.

  When a mad man with a gun walks into a room full of kids and the kids are too whimpy to rush him, well, thats a truly sad state of affairs.

  I understand that one of yesterdays heros is a Holocaust survior professer who aided several of his students to escape. Poor old bastard still had the guts to stand and deliver...God bless him.

  HS...what the heck is the 'lil face for? The SOB stopped to re-load at one point for Christs' sake.

  I guess my generation was the last raised with a will to survive. Getting shot aint the end ...unless it's fatal on impact history has show that a person with resolve can fight and survive being shot.

  Those folks over PA on 9-11... at least they died with their boots on... That's what I'm talkin' about.
