My mom told me 30+ years ago, that the jokes and and any mentioning of JW's on TV, were all postive, because more people would hear Jahs name, and become aware of hime.

I think that the internet is undermining their percieved power. They can't keep secrets anymore.

I agree, Arthur. I am coming to believe that the biggest threat to the WTS is their own history. They rely heavily on short memories, deleting text, spin, 'new light,' bait and switch, 'we're just fallible men,' the ol' shell game, the passage of time, new rubes and the incredible, mind-boggling dupability of the R & F. But objective, contextual information about the real history of the JW's is very damaging to their credibility.

WHAT NP ARTICLE? In 1995 after the WT article, many newspapers ran the story. I think the LA Times had a religion section every Saturday and they covered it. The article as I remember was very direct and specific on the change.

I distinctly remember that LA Times article. I remember that the Witnesses in my area were up in arms over the article. The article was "proof" that we were being persecuted. I remember that the article quoted from a prominent ex-JW; but I don't remember who it was. (I know it wasn't Ray Franz) The individual was quoted by the Times writer as stating that they knew the Generation teaching was going to have to be scrapped soon. I remember that I was surprised that an ex-JW had anticipated this. I was much younger and naive at the time; and didn't fully comprehend the significance of the change.

This article was VERY powerful. I hope the 1935 issue is in the paper.

Information is the biggest threat and no better distribution method for information exists than the internet.

They rely heavily on short memories

Exactly. When my parents were conned into converting in the 1970's they did not know the truth about 1914 or had heard any mention of the year 1925. I spoke to a Bible Study recently and he had no idea about 1925. The more Bible Studies that learn these truths before they are mentally indoctrinated and trapped by baptism, the more that will take the step to conversion. With the Internet becoming the first step to research any decision, whether it be buying a car, attending a get rich seminar or changing religions, the fewer people will convert in the state of ignorance required to put faith in the F&D Slave.
