Ninja - Wanting to sue an institution! I'm still wanting to tear it to pieces whenever I think of it! That's why walking...if not running away seems at times the best thing....but maybe a little revenge is the best medicine as well as lots of laughter!
Abandoned! Hiya!

Excellent post Gill!
Talking is the only way to help those others out of their 'crippled state'. The Watchtower cripples its followers by forcing them to believe that only the Watchtower Society can provide the path to life. Infact, what the Watchtower Society offers is nothing but a bag of lies than many a con artist would be proud to have contrived.
They offer an impossible prize, 'living forever in paradise on Earth with no problems'. The simple cost, is total obedience to their every direction which are cunningly twisted and formed from contrived scriptures from the Bible. Regular financial donations are very helpful in gaining that impossible prize! How clever!
And all the time, these very cripples are capable of making better decisions for themselves and their families, but they have become so afraid at what the Watchtower tells them that they no longer even dare 'put one foot in front of another' in their own lives and do exactly the same to their children. They live a life of fear of consequences, fear of living, fear of decisions, fear of succeeding, fear of education and in the end fear of their very own shadows. They become crippled by the Cultic rules and control of their master, the Watchtower Society who says 'You can't walk without US!'
I think it's also extremely important for JWs who are still in their mental/emotional wheelchairs to "see" that we can actually "walk" without any help from the WTS. We need to show them that it is safe to venture away from the wheelchair. We need for them to know that there are people who are willing to help them take those first baby steps, and teach them to see the world from the vantage point of an upright position rather than one stuck down in a wheelchair. They need to know that it is possible to live a good life: vibrantly, fully and freely, without the encumberences the WTS imposes upon them.
This is one of the reasons why JWD is so very valuable to people who are still stuck in that mindset and don't know how to get from where they are to where they want to be.

Good post Gil. Looking back I see the Watertower as just following the American business modell of creating a need and filling it. And my mother fell for it and draged my brother and I along.
It is a book publishing company after all. Publish or perish. MOVE the product. And capture your audience.
They're almost up there with the tobaco companies.

Great story.
I am regularly tempted to just walk on and forget them! After all, they appear to have chosen to be cripples.....
instead, they fell into a very clever trap!Keep talking to 'your JWs'. One day, they too may wake up and discover that they can walkl!!
Unfortunately, this doesn't work for many. I will keep talking to "my JW's" to help them wake up. Even
as they don't fully listen, I encourage independent thought. Just the other day, my mother scoffed at
those that let others lead them without researching for themselves. I told her that not letting others
mislead you includes her people, too. She has to examine their sayings. She smiled and agreed, saying
she does examine the issues for herself. If only she really did. -

Scully - I know what you mean about it being important for the 'still in' JWs to see that you are out, living your life and happy. It seems to take a little while to learn to 'walk properly' the way most others have been brought up to live their whole life. We have to accept, that no matter how we live there will always be problems than crop up as problems are NORMAL! Sometimes, I found myself thinking, 'now they'll think 'that' happened because, in their terminology, 'we left Jehovah'. But its not IF we have problems that crop up that matter, but HOW we handle these problems. Without the Watchtower stricture of handling life with one arm tied behind your back, many problems become easier to handle, no matter what happens!

Jaguarbass - The WTBTS is an INCREDIBLE book publishing company. In the same way as cigarette companys it has an addicted and captive audiance!
Johnny cip - Ta Luv! It does seem to have taken a while to learn to walk ' properly', BUT it is worth every effort!
OnTheWayOut - With regard to your mum and her own 'searching and examining of issues' for herself, this is a question that I posed to my own Mum. She said the same as yours, that she researches for herself. But what did she research in? The Watchtower, The Awake and the Local Newspaper....All Comics in their own right! She couldn't name one book, history proffesor or anything she hadn't read in the WT publications!
