I'm making a retraction. This was not the second F-5 tornado to hit this year. I don't know where I got that information from, but it was wrong.

The tornado that hit Greensburg was rated under the new scale as an EF-5 (EF stands for Enhanced Fujita).

These storms have played hell on thousands of lives. I think we Kansans will be glad to see some fair weather soon. Between the tornados and the flooding, we've had our fill for one spring.

(Praying for the storm victims and that the Wichita area is spared anything as bad as what happened in Greensburg...)

I know I am ready for some good weather. Between the snow in the winter and all this rain this spring I am ready for some sunshine. last night we got two more inces of rain. so we are at 4 inches so far and more coming.

MrsMcDucket, I have cousins in Wichita. And another Uncle in Kingman. I have family all over the state.

Well, schools were closed today. Because some roads were impassable due to water and the buses couldn't get through.

The city of new Cambria has been evacated and the power to the city has been turned off. They expect the water to crest on that city on tuesday and it's suppossed to 5 ft higher than the flood of 1993.

There is a park here in town that is completly under water. I mean the picnic benchs are covered to the table top. I heard on the police scanner that some kids were in the park in their row boat. lol

the roads to st Joseph MO was closed today. And they were evacuating people out of Topeka today as well. The Missouri river has already crested today. So I am sure more flooding on the way. Thank goodness the rain has stopped for now.

I grew up in extreme NE Kansas and my family still lives there. I'm on the phone with my folks right now. Dad says they got 8 inches of rain the last 2 days. My brother works in St Joseph and they sent all the KS people home early and told them not to try to come in tomorrow. I guess they're talking about evacuating Elwood (on the bank of the Missouri river by St Joe).

The Canadian Red Cross has just announced it is on appeal to accept funds towards those affected by this tornado in Kansas.

They have set up a trust account for USA Tornado Relief Fund. Canadians interested in helping (and getting a tax receipt) can go to www.redcross.ca or call 1-800-418-1111.

The Canadian Red Cross will use this same account to assist with future US weather related disasters should excess funds be received beyond the needs of the Kansas community.

Loosie, they will be telling their grandkids about this, in 30 years.

Back in...what was it...93? The huge MO river flood? I saw a bunch of guys *water skiing* behind a powerboat on a baseball diamond in the river bottoms by Atchison, KS.

I thought they were complete idiots. The water was filthy - every hog farm and sewer upriver had been flooded out and into the river...can you imagine hitting a submerged post or something and getting hurt and getting that nasty water in the injury??

Dad said the river crest by St Joe in this flood is supposed to be higher than the one in 93. This is a much more localized flood of course. That one was the entire midwest.
