    R Jack:

I think the party line is "always keeping yourself in expectation" of Armageddon. You're warned against the danger of "putting it off mentally, in your mind," and thus losing your "sense of urgency."

    Remember all those JW buzzwords??

A parent's number one job after providing food and shelter for their children is to prepare them for life. My parents and many other Witness parents I know failed that miserably. My parents prepared me for death and left me with a sense of impending doom. After I realized all this I tried to prepare my sons for life.

Again and again I am grateful to my mom - when i said to her that someone had said i'd never finish school she told me she had never thought that at all. my mom never once said that kind of thing to me. makes me said cos now i kinda think that maybe she has ALWAYS known its a load of croc but doesnt want to lose her family and support network.

Yes, for those of us that believed EVERYTHING the WTS printed and taught.....it did have major impacts on how we raised our children and how we lived our lives, concerning our WTS-approved opinions and views on education. Our youngest daughter was born in 1969, the first year I was contacted by the JWs. When I accepted that free, home WTS indoctrination program, I was told that this baby would never enter school---the "end" was THAT close!

When she reached school age, I kept her at home because legally I could do so until age seven in this state. I did not want her exposed to all the "worldly influences" in school, and wasn't the "end" JUST around the corner anyway? What would it matter?

Age seven arrived and so did we....at the school to enroll her...and didn't I get an earful and a toungue-lashing when they realized why I had kept her out of school! Needless to say, they were not appreciative of God's warnings of the "end" being imminnent...and they sure let me know this often!

This daughter is now well beyond school age, is now going on 39, and we still see that "the end" is still looming over the horizon these 39 years after the fact......and we have five children that never completed a higher education than high school graduation. We never "pushed" it or made any plans for it when they were still living at home.

Of course none of them ever tried out for Boy or Girl Scouts, Little League or the Soccer team either while in school.....thanks again to the wonderful direction of the WTS editorial staff that were allowed to run our lives for 30 long, regrettable and painful years.

me too...i remember hearing that quitting high school was best, cause the end was coming soooooon, and there would be no need for 'wordly knowledge'...my parenst,in their 80's are convinced itll come b4 one of them dies,so they will be able to enter paradise as husband and wife.i guess if you get resurrected you dont get to continue marriage?..hmm.that DOES sound odd,but thats what i hear...anyway.im in my mid 40's and the wickedness continues to run rampant...thank god....

Thanks for these stories! It makes me glad I got out in my twenties - soon enough to go to COLLEGE and try to make a good future for my family. Even though my wife is still in, I think she's silently happy I'm excelling with a good job I wouldn't have got if I didn't go to school (health insurance anyone?). If I was still in I would be cleaning toilets at night and weekends still, barely making rent, and no insurance to speak of. Some people can go out and be successful as an entrapaneur, but others just don't have that kind of savvy and are more inclined to "book learning." To each his own - as long as each contributes to society, unlike JWs who would rather see everyone else fail, fueling their desire for Armageddon. but no, instead of a grandiose end to their enemies, all they'll have is a life of quiet desperation, slipping into spiritual obscurity, demonized by false hopes and dreams.
