Is this petty? An argument with the neighbours

    Hi Sad Emo,

I have thought of that. The ASBO thing made me laugh...all for a bin! It makes me feel very petty but it is very annoying. I have thought about them being illegal and to be honest there is a woman living there who only shows her face very little. The last bunch were illegal, they used to come in mini buses at 2am, dressed in David Icke style shell suits.

Stand your ground now, or you will be forever at odds with them. My ex was Romanian - they can be very civilized and nice, or they can be jerks, just like Americans. (He is the jerk variey, but his Romanians friends could be nice.) My old apartment - the Russians kept stealing my paid-for parking spot so I had to park way out on the street and hike in. I tried to be nice and they pretended no English. I had them towed a few times and they had the nerve to yell at me. Nails behind their tires worked well....... Just treat them as you would any American.... Tell 'em you will call the police (Securitat) if they do not return your recycle bin by tonight.

Solid advice - I am going to take that. Thanks for sharing your experience.

The trashbin thing is not petty. Much good advice has already been given. I think call the police. It's actually pretty funny when you imagine it from my end. I'm so sure putting it on front of each others' houses. Sounds like something my brother would have done to me when we were kids and he was trying to bug me.

    This comment bothered me:

Now annoyingly they seem to have Barbecues every night, and they put on so much lighter fluid that the whole area stinks. They dont seem to want to integrate either and have loud conversations in Russian with large groups of people.

So what if they prefer to speak their language. It's their privilege to speak two languages! Why should you care to understand what they're saying anyway? And the large groups of people comment? So they're social. So what! And give me a break about the lighter fluid. Would you feel the same way if they were white?

Other racist-sounding comments on this thread were really irritating too. I hope they were tongue in cheek because I really hoped Americans were forward-moving socially, rather than backwards!

Get a huge box from Acme Co. and put in on the lawn. Prop one end up with a tall stick. Tie a string to the bottom of the stick. Hid behind a tree with the other end of the string in your hand. Put a bottle of Vodka under the box. Now just wait. Sweet sweet victory will soon be yours.

When is the next recycling day? Fill yours, put it to the curb, watch for theirs...watch for the garbage guy. Go get yours back.

bluesapphire, the last time I looked, Russians WERE white. Give me a break with the PC crap. And I am not American. This has nothing to do with race, so don't start on that - it is a thread about a group of people living next to me who steal my trashcan, and I happen to believe that loud gatherings of people shouting at each other in a quiet neighborhood when they have only just arrived is pretty unsociable. Did you not read the bits about integration?

Can you take a day off work next trash day and videotape him bringing your bin out of his house? Then when you see your new bin, empty it into the ratty old bin (or onto his front lawn if you're feeling pissy ) and take yours inside. Then report him to NIS... maybe they'll deport him if he's in the country illegally. If he's here legally, he shouldn't be doing things that are socially unacceptable like stealing other peoples' property.

I used to live in an apartment complex with a common laundry area. I bought a couple of new laundry baskets and put my name and apartment # on the bottom of the baskets. Since it seems stupid to truck an empty laundry basket up and down between loads, it appeared that everyone just left their baskets on top of the machines with their laundry inside. Makes sense, right? Well, some idiot decided to steal both my new baskets and left their crappy broken ones in their place. I reported it to the building manager and told him that mine were marked with my name and apartment #. He suggested staking out the laundry room for a few days and if someone showed up with my baskets, to just take them back. That's what I did, and from then on, I just carried the empty laundry basket back up to my apartment until it was time to bring my laundry upstairs.

Maybe when you get your new bin back you can start using two bins to prevent him from stealing it again. Keep the clean new bin inside your premises, to collect and sort your recycling. On trash day, transfer the contents of the new bin into the old bin and bring it to the curb. The new bin never leaves your garage, and he won't be tempted to steal the old one.

needproof, i remember years ago, when my ex and i were living in a large apartment complex........we had a group of Polish neighbors who decided to hold a birthday party for their friend in the middle of the courtyard where everyone's bedroom window faces............well, the party went on for hours......this was a weeknight, and we had to get up the next day for work...........we called the cops on them, after first trying to ask them nicely to keep their celebration down to a dull roar............many of them were drunk and one bold fellow came over with his accordian.........oh, yeah, an accordian, and played it loudly under our window...........in my viewpoint, loud anything after certain hours is just plain rude and unneighborly...........i'd call the cops on them, also. they started it by stealing your bin.......c'mon, they wanted your new one, not their old junky one and that is just plain rude and unneighborly..........sorry.
