    RichieRich you say

I have modified my body to appear much different from other people.

This often results in fast judgements being passed down upon me.

People generally feel comfortable with people who in some way indicate that they share something in common. Dress is only the initial signal we give out.

People make judgments about whether someone is safe to be near. If their appearance is threatening or extremely unusual they will take steps to move away from that person. The person giving of these signal is aware of the effect they have on others.

People passing you in the street may make an often unconscious judgement. If they stopped to talk to you they would adjust their view depending on signals with your body language eye movements and of course speech.

When we make a choice to appear much different from other people we are expressing a desire to be different. Perhaps our aim is to intimidate, shock, or just to be noticed. In any case we are demonstrating that we have an agenda and are looking for a reaction from other people. They know this and act accordingly.

Perhaps, for example you want to look fierce but someone finds your appearance comical. If it is not the reaction you are seeking then you will make a fast judgement about that person.

Everything has a sense to it.

So Richie - what is your adgenda.

Why do choose to look a ceratin way? How do you want people to react to your appearance?

However, some individuals may feel differently. Does it make a difference if an individual keeps their
nails trim, haircut and body clean or does it make a difference if he or she looks like a suspect in a
    police lineup?

It deffinitely makes a difference to me.

    Richie - Where are you?

Has your appearance frightened off all the other posters?

Clothing can be a tool or a weapon.

    Clothing affects your image.
Your image affects your social experiences.
    Your experiences affect you.

    Do they "Make" you though?
    I dunno bout that.

    Clothes make great camo(flauge).
Clothing was how people advertised before there was facebook. hahaha

I say, experiment with it. See what happens. :)

I understand your above comments, but they aren't exaxtly related to my post.

The question was- "Do clothes make the man?"

My statement was that they do not.

My agenda is to modify myself as I see fit, for my own personal enjoyment and satisfaction.

I want people to react to my appearance like they react to other people's. Sure, I appear different and I don't expect people not to look at me but there is no reason for them to assume that I am dangerous. How many criminals have stretched ear lobes? How many serial killers have sleeve tattoos? Now how many look like you?

Stretched earlobes mean one of two things to me. Either the person is not playing with a full deck of cards, or the person is from a different culture. I'd give this assertion about a 95% accuracy rating.

Clothes tell us what tribe you belong to- a successful one or a loser one.

    Thanks for your comments Richie.

I was not suggesting that your appearance makes you appear either dangerous of criminal.

As I said, 'Perhaps, for example you want to look fierce but someone finds your appearance comical. If it is not the reaction you are seeking then you will make a fast judgement about that person.

I was interested in how you wish people to view or react to your appearance. It seems from your comments that you want to be noticed and seen as an individual.

I have the appearance of a successful criminal. I can walk in and out of places without being seen because there is nothing out of the ordinary about my appearance. I deliberately choose clothes that do not stand out. Even friends pass me in the street. I am known as 'the invisible man.' This suits me very well. At the end of the day, I think that we all dress to suit our taste and our aims

I don't consider myself to be a normal person. Its hard to explain, but I think I that feel and percieve and judge much differently from the majority of the population.

Some people decorate their homes with little trinkets to start conversations and subtly show off how great they are. I do that with my body.

I have no problem with people acknowleging (sp?, sorry, late night last night) my appearance as different, and showing interest in it.

I think its a more honest form of self expression than a certain brand of clothing.

Also, people make statements with their clothing, but some of us have a lot more to say.
