    BFD, that was excellent.

Terry, your post reminded me of something else I was thinking of: the WT spin on the "empty house" parable (not exactly a parable, btw) assumes that the house should not be empty -- which is not what the text says; it rather suggests that it is difficult to keep empty.

At least in the second temple, the Holy of holies was empty, too...

The WT brainfeeding left us no chance.

Another poster put it this way in pm (I hope there is no problem in quoting it as it is very relevant to the thread):

After 47 years of "way too much" I am reveling in "nothing"! The "Society" strives to keep our mind so noisy we can't hear our own thoughts. Once and if we do, we can't help but question all the extraneous noise. No wonder they are opposed to meditation. They know that we are left alone we our own thoughts we pose a serious threat to them.

Freedomlover, thank you for popping in. You're quite right: our anticipation of the dreaded "nothing" is the most scary. Glad you made friends with the nice monster.

    All the best.

***the fear of nothing many of us find on their way -- a fear that often scares us into additional, unnecessary painful and vain experiences****

My teacher once told me: "The only thing which inhibits awakening to our true Self is the fear of being nothing. You are no thing! but not the barren 'nothing' that the mind imagines."

"Much Ado About Nothing" Wrote Mr. Shakespeare.

I remember reading that the "nothing" in that title was a rather derogatory circumlocution for the female organ. (To swap one euphemism for another) Don't know enough about Shakespeare to vouch for that one though.

there are three things that cause pain

injury to body, injury to self image, and injury to ideals or goals [which include others you care about].

by realizing that you are NOT any of them, you can un-attach yourself from them and they cannot harm you any more.

but what ARE you then? The buddhists call this the void, the nothing, but they do not mean non-existant...but they do mean unable to be described or defined. whatever you point to, whatever you can think about, discusss and imagine is not it...so it is NO-THING as all things are concepts and objects of perception.. the perceiver is not among them.

meaning comes from awareness that your next move has consequences for one of the three ways you can be harmed or pleased... in otherwords your expectations... without expectations you find no meaning, yet you do not cease to exist... try it (^_^)

    Nark,

I just read your post and after several days of very little sleep, lots of stress, much worry, a lot of hard work, and just commenting on Jeff's post about ugly comments from Elders:

    I must say this:

I did not understand a word of what you wrote, HOWEVER, it was very interesting. Be assurred of a re-read and a comment!
