Getting Even With The Watchtower Society—Is It Necessary?

At the close of their lives as Jehovah’s Witnesses, some individuals have written books,
created websites and others have approached the media and the legal system about the
    Watchtower Society.

    Why Do They Do It?

What do you think is the primary reason an individual reports on the Watchtower Society
once they have left. Is it revenge, closure, or warning others about this cult?

Is it necessary, if so why?

    Respectfully,

I think it's a combination of factors such as the ones you mentioned and everyone will of course have a different reason.

It also helps that in a free and democratic society we can speak our minds and after so long of not being able to it's a natural thing to want to talk about what happened.

We also have the basic human instinct to want to help people. Poverty, war etc are too large for one person however if your story can help one more person avoid this snare then that's an acheviable goal.

I am not of the opinion that people want to "get even" the the WT$, rather I think they want to warn people of the deception that lies behind the suits, dresses, and magazines of the WT$. That is one of the reasons why I liked Ray Franz's books so much. They did not have the air of revenge, but rather a caring attitude of showing people just how unloving, and hypocritical the GB was at the time of his tenure on it. I was drawn to his books because they did not have negative titles, e.g. 30 Years a Watchtower Slave. Crisis of Conscience led the reader to believe, and it was affirmed, that the author was reviewing his crisis, and wanted to share it with the world.

That is my view in a nutshell. I would be happy to expand upon it if asked.

My motives personally, are in metamorphosis constantly on this matter.

At first, revenge did seem the right thing to do. That morphed into a desire to help others to leave. Further refinements in my character has created in me a desire to help innocent ones to avoid the traps I have fallen into. Lately I am focusing on the purest of such innocence, the children whose lives and futures are impacted by the Child Molestation issues within the organization.

I don't think one can 'Get even' with a corporation or religion. But one can make positive impact on individuals within, or those who might join.

The comments given above reflect pretty much the way I see this too. I feel upset with myself for so many years of nonsense that I obediently swallowed without thinking because I didn't KNOW what to ask---AND also upset with the WTS for purposely sucking nice people into a cleverly designed and more cleverly worded indoctrination process that would change their entire lives and that of their families.

I do NOT mean in a postive way, but feeling that we HAD TO comply with anything and everything the WTS printed.....while wrecking our nonJW mates and children's lives as we did this...will take the rest of MY life to "get over" . The brutal, cold and unchristian policies taught by the men of the WTS, still rise up and bite me in the backside even though I walked away from the WTS seven years ago. The remaining JW members of the family are always busy doing "their thng" and EXTRA busy making sure that they can find new ways to be insensitive and uncaring jerks. It never ends. THEY make sure of that.

So ANYTHING that would turn just ONE person away from the Watcthtower Society....is a big PLUS!

    Rich:

You know their slogan "Advertise, Advertise, Advertise"? Well, my slogan is "EXPOSE, EXPOSE, EXPOSE" them.

I don't know if one can truly "get even". I would have to say my desire to EXPOSE them supersedes revenge and anger. Because they were so secretive about the infinite number of bad things that happened and how they threatened people who dared to speak out, they must be exposed. The world has to see the real picture of what really goes on.

No, its not necessary to get even with the W.T., but it is necessary to expose (as someone else stated) them. Along the lines of another post I made today, its been 15 years since I have been out, I had myself this morning, am I still not over it? I keep coming to JWD Mon-Fri searching, posting, reading, etc...I can't seem to get enough information regarding this thing that used to be a HUGE part of my life, why can't I just forget?

We never will, thats why. To expose them would give me some vindication, it makes what I went through somewhat worth it. I am not into revenge, but I am into getting the word out about the W.T.S.

Let's see: They stole my childhood, messed with my head and my heart for over 30 years, and keep my mother and brother in fearful captivity. Others have had it much, much worse!

They are experts at assisted suicide (no blood), protect pedophiles, and destroy families. They manipulate trusting innocents into unChristian behavior (shunning). They lie, they cheat, they steal. All in the name of God and His son?

    They are vile filth.

I wouldn't call it "getting even," but yes, I feel the extraordinary need to advocate for Watchtower victims and warn others. I intend to get the word out for the rest of my natural life. It is my fervent hope to see the Watchtower crumble and the evil men in charge brought to justice.

If I can prevent just one person from getting involved, or assist just one in escaping, all the terror and guilt and walking the narrow path will have been worth it.

Love of humanity coupled with deep hatred of the Watchtower can be a very powerful force for good, IMO. Once you know the truth about "The Truth," it would be inhumane, heartless and cruel to remain silent.

Matt 15:13-14 13 In reply he said: “Every plant that my heavenly Father did not plant will be uprooted. 14 L ET them be. Blind guides is what they are. If, then, a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit.”

Christ said it best, let them go, blind guides.

When I was young I was a drunkard, criminal, and drug user. Then I joined the watchtower cult. All things considered, the watchtower cult was by far a more negative influence in my life, and far more destructive than my former lifestyle. It is impossible for the damage to be undone. Warning people about the dangers of cults is every bit as important as educating them about substance abuse.
