Watchtower Bait and Switch

How many times have you seen articles in the Asleep magazines about chocolate, coffee, some exotic plant or animal, or something that smacks of entertainment? Why would these articles be in a religious publication in the first place, especially one that is in the process of totally banning all entertainment?

For one thing, having these articles is supposed to make the religion appear to tolerate and even condone a certain level of entertainment, and even participate to a degree. Very often you see an article about bicycling or sailboating in the Asleep. And people that have a degree of interest in those subjects, but are not interested in religion or in this cult, will be interested in taking those issues of the Asleep to learn more about the hobby or sport. And once they take one set of magazines, they are placed in the Return Visit system where the person that placed the first set will now hound and harass the person/people that took the first set to take other sets, and ultimately accept a Watchtower publicationBible study. From there, the heat is on to stay with the program until baptism.

So the person now accepts the cult, thinking that they are going to be able to partake in the hobby with the Watchtower Society's blessing. At first, nothing is said to the contrary. But all progress is to learning to place other Craptower publications and give those infamous #2 Talks. The learning about the hobby is always later. Soon, however, the service begins. Now, they are instructed that they will be merely placing magazines about other hobbies and sports! And once they are baptized, there will be no time for partaking in the hobby/sport. Instead, the time is for the miseryministry. So much for the fun that was promised! Nice giong, Jehovah!

How can this scam be avoided? First, any religion that promotes a sport is probably pulling off a bait and switch scam. Even the Mormons do one better: you actually get to ride the bicycle instead of just reading and advertising it. However, you would do even better to reject the magazines, no matter how appealing they appear upfront. Then you should look up the topic that interested you, be it a hobby, sport, or a disease that you know someone that has, on the Internet. You will probably find a lot of information from the official sources to peers and blogs/forums. If you truly wish to learn a hobby or sport, this is one of the best places to start. You might get satisfactory results just from this: for sure it will be much better than that Craptower bait and switch scam.

What if you wish to go beyond this? Forums and blogs can only teach so much. If you wish to go beyond that, there are classes that you can sign up for. Now, this is when you will probably have to spend some money. But the amount will likely be less than what the Craptower will take in donations, gas, vehicle wear and tear, suit dry-cleanings, and miscellaneous supply expenses. And you will spend less time studying in a class setting than the 5 hours of indoctrinations plus service demanded by the Craptower Society.

And, anyone who still doesn't think this is a scam should go to www.sixscreensofthewatchtower.com and read all the material there. You will see in-context material, the truth about the origin and history of the Watchtower Society backed by original Watchtower publication scans, and all the lies and scams that they pull. You will see how they tampered with the Bible (compare Revelation 22:18 and 19). They even have subliminal images in the Watchtower publications! You will see it if you watch the videos on Screen 5. And to think they have a cow about people listening to records with backmasked satanic material on them! Read the material, and don't fall for the scam. Believe me: fall for the bait, and you will not be participating in the recreational items that you will be advertising for your whole life.

The rumor that the WTS is going to ban all entertainment keeps swirling around this forum, despite it's being completely false. I don't know who originally started this rumor, but it is totally unfounded, and even rediculous.

"Welcome to Guyana brothers and sisters. Step right up and grab a cup. Humbly partake of the provisions that the Slave Class has provided us. Yes, that's it . . . . . drink up."

Like I have said they have and no one cares on the inside.

It would be like banning sex you can say it is a grey area ( hint by saying something is grey it is supposed to trigger the black and white paradigm and the beliver will avoid it ) but, no one in there right mind would give it up.

The thread that started it is the resolution found at www.jehovahs-witness.com/10/115757/1.ashx . I think it's ridiculous, and it is going to be nearly impossible to totally enforce because people are just going to be that much more inclined to do it behind the backs of the Society and the elders. People will also leave when they get more ridiculous.

But this is not out of line with what they have been doing in the past. This has been the trend since the inception. First, they take out the holidays and birthdays while adding the responsibility of service. Then they preach that entertainment has its place, while always assigning a prominent place in service. Then take away the gatherings and parties. All the while, increase the pressure to buy out more time from entertainment to increase service time. So, ridiculous as the ban is, I believe they are working hard on it so they can control the flock more and get every bit of time that they can out of the publishers.

I also hope it backfires. I hope that no one will want to enforce it, because very few if any people actually believe it will be for the good of the people. It will also make people even more inclined to leave the whole organization. This, along with a lot of even worse and more ridiculous new rules and regulations to come, should cause anyone with any active brain left to blow out entirely. And then they will have even worse money problems and even worse headwinds in recruiting new members. Only time will tell what actually comes to pass. In the meantime, those who stay in are gambling that it won't be as bad as they think.

The version of the 2006 resolution you refer to in that old thread is innaccurate. JW's are not on the path to banning entertainment, coffee, chocolate, etc. In fact you could easily pull up dozens of WT quotes that plainly state we all need a measure of leisure and entertainment, and chocolate, coffee, etc, are all fine in moderation.

Might pay to check your facts a bit more thoroughly dude. Don't want to be guilty of the same tactics the Watchtower is guilty of now would we.

I can only hope so. I have seen too many examples of where they would look like they are proclaiming that something is necessary and beneficial in moderation only to ban it 20 years henceforth--sometimes only to remove the ban later still. Look at what they did with oral sex in 1969 only to take it down in 1978. Look what they did with organ transplants in 1967 only to retract in 1980. This organization is so full of s*** that it's better to err on being too dramatic and scare people out than it is to be too cautious and find out the hard way that they are in fact planning something like this.

About two years ago two elders told my daughter-in-law that she should not have had games at the baby shower she held for her cousin's wife. There was nothing racy about her games.
