I have heard both China and Islam - seems to be anybody's guess a the moment.

The scriptures did not foresee Britain or the U.S.A.. They did not predict a United Nations or
European Union. They ended with Greece and Rome as the players. There was no
American or French Revolution, World War One or Two, Soviet Union, rise of Germany or Japan
discussed in the Bible. This has not stopped the application of what was written to what is
happening or was happening on the world scene.

...at least according to the Society.

The Society laid out COLD WAR ARMAGEDDON APPLICATION of the scriptures and
has not really printed anything very clear since that. (Even that stuff wasn't that clear.)

Just as my mother awaits Armageddon around the next corner because Eve will soon be
6000 years old, and the 1000-year-reign must fit into the 7000-year 7th day, any fully
convinced JW's from the early 1980's up until the early 1990's expects Armageddon to
be preceeded by the international cry of peace and banning of all religion.

Any younger JW's or converted ones from the later 1990's thru today, and some who
change with the times are expecting the (unknown so far) King of the North to bring some
calamity. This is because the Daniel book and the Isaiah books made them think about
this. The average JW that goes to the hall has really no more information than that.
Something is going to happen, and happen soon. The WT will tell us when there is more
available. They really need another Oracle. Maybe they are afraid to make bold
    predictions nowadays.

THe current thinking of the WTS on that is that king has not been revealed yet.

All they have to do is wait. If you choose the winner when the game is over, you are always right.

Good point, I like the way you put that.

What IS the point of making an ambiguous prophecy? If it can be interpreted in more than one way then it's useless.

And that my wise young friend IS the point. It is worthless.

I dont think the bible needs China to prove that the bible is a book of discordant ramblings.

I don't think the Daniel prophecy is that ambiguous, when read in it's historical context... I've read a lot of interpretations, from other fundy sites, and it often takes a lot of work to make it fit a modern King, like the WT's interpretation, my favourite part being their interpretation of 'the ships of kittim' It's comical how forced it is.

I'm sure most scholars agree the final King was Antioch IV, but the Society have to make it jump to 'modern day' to make it the last days.

All this talk of "old light" and "new light". I prefer to read prophecy by strobe light! It's lots more fun that way.

I remember reading an explanation of Daniel in a 1925 Golden Age. They were convinced that it proved that the time of the end began in 1799 in fulfillment of prophecy. The last book study I went to was studying the Daniel Prophecy book. I finally realized that the explanation of the King of the North vs. King of the South was so convoluted as to be nonsense. I know of at least one prophecy in Isaiah that was changed due to its failure. I know of another that was made up by the writer of the Deuteronomistic History (Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Samuel, Kings) that was intended to glorify King Josiah. I know of "prophecies" that were misapplied to Jesus by the NT writers. These are just a few that I remember. There are others. The evidence from its own pages refutes that the Bible is a book of real prophecy.

We don't have to guess anymore when the end is comming, I saw it on the discovery channel. It's 2012. There were several different prophets who predicted it then, even a computer program.

The Bible itself disproves Bible Prophecy. It's an historical book written for the times of the various writers. I.E. at least four hands wrote the first five books of the Bible. Then there is the redactor who was capable of combining and organizing these separate documents into a single work that was united enough to be readable as a continuous narrative. Many mistakes and changes have shaped the Bible we read today.

It can't be trusted for telling us how the future of mankind will play out.
