This conversation happened at work today. I already know that this guy was a JW but I wanted to know where his headspace was. The conversation went something like this

Me: I don't go to meetings anymore so I can work late on tuesdays and thursdays to pay my bills.

    JW: Armaggedon is coming (tauntingly)

Me:Yes, I know that some sort of apocalypse is coming

JW: All those on Satan's side will be destroyed and those on Jehovah's side will be saved.

Me: That is one of the reasons that I left the 'truth'. I don't believe that everyone will be destroyed at armaggedon.

JW:That is the way it is - only the Jehovahs wItnesses will make it

Me:Do you mean that all good persons other than Jehovahs wItnesses will die at the big A

    JW: YES!

Me: I strongly disagree. Do Jehovahs wItnesses also think they will be spared the trials of the great tribulation?

JW: Yes , the Jehovahs wItnesses will be protected during the great tribulation!

Me: (seeing that this is a dead end conversation ) Well I don't agree with that and that's not the only thing I disagree with

    JW: Whats that?

ME: I can prove that some of the Watchtower doctrine is false

    JW: Prove it!

Me: For instance historians say that Jerusalem was destroyed in 587 BCE but the Watchtower says it was destroyed in 607BCE

    JW: So?

Me: 607 BCE is a very important watchtower date as you know . The society adds 2520 years to that date to arrive at 1914 the end of the gentile times.

    JW: You know the truth

Me : But I can prove the 607 BCE date is false

JW: Well all the society publications prove that the 607 date is correct. I'll bring some elders next time to explain that to you

Me: Please do, and while you are at it bring the circuit overseer and the Governig Body . I have a document from the internet that gives irrefutable proof that 607 is wrong and 587 is correct. Do you wish to read this document?

JW: (silence)- changes the subject, gets upset and leaves in a huff.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

here is the document I had in mind . It is very well written hard hitting and to the point

When confronted with clear evidence that their beliefs are wrong - that is usally the response - silence, changed subject, denial.

JW: All those on Satan's side will be destroyed and those on Jehovah's side will be saved.

In this statement Jehovah and Satan sound like a couple of 4th graders threatening to bring their little gangs to a fight that's never gonna happen.

You should have just directed him to the WTS's official website. http://www.jw-media.org/beliefs/beliefsfaq.htm

Do you believe that you are the only ones who will be saved?

No. Many millions who have lived in centuries past and who were not Jehovah's Witnesses will come back in a resurrection and have an opportunity for life. Many now living may yet take a stand for truth and righteousness before God's time of judgment, and they will gain salvation. Moreover, Jesus said that we should not be judging one another. Humans look at the outward appearance; God looks at the heart. He sees accurately and judges mercifully. God has committed judgment into Jesus' hands, not ours.—Matthew 7:1-5; John 5:22, 27.

Such a typical scenario, dub meats apostate, dub tries to intimidate apostate by acting superior coz dub has all the knowledge, apostate proves dub knows s*&t, dub tucks his tail between his/hers legs and pretends it never happened.

Scully: I know you know this already but just for the sake of the lurkers

In classic JW style that FAQ is answering a totally different question than the one posed. First what do dead people have to do with the question? Still those "resurrected" non witnesses according to WT teaching will be promptly put to death if they do not become JW's. Therefore the answer is YES.

Also, to the WT follower and leader alike, taking a stand for "truth and righteousness" means being a baptised JW! Again making the answer YES.

Likewise they do not believe God or Jesus does the judging either, rather it is the Watchtower appointee elders who do that! Being in his "right hand of control" and all!

    LOL

Way to nail 'em with 587. I look forward to doing the same with the GTR book.

You have got to be kidding! The elders will do the judging? I don't think I would go back, even if you proved it was the trut. They couldn't judge a .........

OMG! It's Jehovah's war and he dosen't even get to do the judging anymore! That's gotta suck...

Do they even worship Jehovah anymore? Or just the WTS and their local elders? That's warped, even by dub standards!

Ballsy mate. Are you ready for disfellowshipping for reasons of apostacy? That's the sort of thing that gets you there. If you wish to avoid it, you'll have to lie about how you feel to JWs.
