Maybe you could have two beds in the same room? Then just move over to the vacant one when you get insomnia. Hop back in bed with hubby in the morning when it's almost time to get up.

I have reduced my sleeping problem's by not drinking caffeine four hours before bedtime and a hot shower closer to bed time instead of after work. There were many night's I would leave the room and sleep on the living room floor just so I didn't disturb my wife. The hot shower relaxed me enough to fall asleep quickly.

It sounds like you need a lot of room in a bed, perhaps you can get an extra large king size bed with plenty of space to move in. I don't think this issue is serious enough to undermine a marriage snoring must be a problem in many bedrooms but spouses somehow get over it.

I have a sleeping disorder and can only sleep alone. I spent many a year sleeping at my husband's side and my health suffered because of his snoring and my problems with sleep (and I snore terribly too). I bought a "white noise" machine and that helped somewhat, along with earplugs (very uncomfortable to wear all night). So about ten years ago we decided to sleep in separate bedrooms. I personally think it contributed to our marriage as we are better rested for facing LIFE. Just because you sleep in different beds doesn't mean your, um, sex life goes down the tube. Doesn't feeling good improve such things? Me thinks so. (Sorry Brookie...more information than you wanted to know about the in-laws, HA)! We'll be celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary next January. It might not work for everyone; but it sure did for us. Okay...I have said WAY TO MUCH so ta ta one and all. Have a great memorial day weekend. mumsy

I am not married but I too have trouble sleeping. I just ordered one of those Select Comfort Sleep Number Beds. (wont put a link, since that aint allowed.... ) These beds are glorified air mattresses on steroids. The nicer ones have memory foam toppers and extra thick matress covers.

My mom has one and when I house sat for them I slept in it.... ahhhh heaven. The nice thing is the Queen (which I ordered) and larger sizes have dual chambers, meaning one person can adjust the bed soft/firmness on their side completely different than the other persons side. They are a bit pricey (mine hit about $2K US), but I got 0% financing for 18 months.....I will pay it off long before it comes due.

I am soooo looking forward to getting it this week.... if you can afford it, that might be the way to go. Heres to you getting some sleep!

My mom and dad slept separately because dad snored so bad...but they had a good "bedroom" life otherwise so that did not suffer (as a grown adult I did not want to know that about my parents but found out quite by accident that little fact...... !) As a single guy I cannot imagine being married and having to sleep separately from my spouse,.....

    Heya sass

Have you thought of getting a bigger bed, we shared a king size bed on our honeymoon and it was massive, we could cuddle up when needed and when we wanted our sleep we could stretch out and still not touch each other there was so much room!!!

I guess coz im used to having someone in the bed im the opposite, I can't sleep properly unless Mike is in bed.

I hope you can figure something out

Neither of you seem to be really happy with the situation. I agree with some other posters - I think you should get a king size bed. The difference is unbelievable.

It occurred to me that I hadn't exercised in two weeks, so I wasn't really all that tired, and not tired enough to sleep soundly. I've gotten myself back to the gym twice a week and that has helped already!

We cannot sleep together in anything less than a king-size bed - & Mrs HAL takes up 75% of that. I also suffer sleep apnea & can snore the roof off but have a CPAP machine now that takes the sting out of that.

By the way Crumpet, my wife tried that trick on me & I can sleep through that treatment - it freaked her too much when I would not wake up - probably an effect of sleep apnea.

Far, far better than separate beds!
