Well for as long as I've lived here in Knoxville, there has only been one chicken chain-KFC. We had a Church's/Burger King Combo, but Church's eventually shut down.
Even though my roots run deep in Kentucky, I think KFC is lousy, and much too greasy.
KFC has had the market cornered here for way too long, but just last week a Bojangles chicken place opened up. Bojangles specializes in Cajun style fried chicken, and it is delicious.
Tonight I went to Bojangles and had the 2 piece meal with cajun fries and dirty rice. It was absolutely delicious.
Supposedly now Popeye's is interested in coming to Knoxville and I cant wait.
It always amazed me that we had only KFC here. In Dayton we had Lee's, KFC, Church's, Popeyes, and Mrs.Winners.
Bojangles was packed tonight, the line was back to the door. Fire Trucks and Ambulances were parked out front, they were all in line to get that spicy chicken.
Move over Colonel, your Monopoly is over.
I have eaten at Bojangles in the Carolina's, and many of their restaurants have buffets, this one didnt however, and that was the only thing lacking about tonights dinner experience.
Move over Colonel, Bojangles is here

Thanks, Dave.
I'll have to get my Pasport renewed to get into west Knoxville so I can eat there.

Yeah, get that passport renewed, and make sure you take some rolaids. I take prevacid for heartburn myself.

Monopolies are never good since the one that has all the market to himself has no incentive to produce first class food and service. Cajun chicken and fries sounds nice but what is dirty rice? How can it be appealing if it is dirty?
I also wonder how much you pay for a typical meal at this restaurant.

Well the 2 piece dinner was $5.69 plus tax (I believe)
Dirty rice is just cajun rice. It is rice that is cooked with sausage and spices. -

Six dollars that's not bad for a good meal, in the USA you have a lot of different restaurants serving food at reasonable prices some of the ones you mentioned I never heard of before.

Yeah, some of those chains are nationwide and some arent. Popeyes started in Louisiana, and spread all over the country. They are just about everywhere but here in Knoxville.
Bojangles started in North Carolina, and they are mostly in the southeast.
Lee's is mainly in Ohio,Kentucky, and Indiana. Lee is actually the nephew of Colonel Sanders.
Im not sure about Mrs.Winners, they had them in Ohio, and they even had them here in Tennessee several years ago, but where they started I dont know.
Church's is nationwide, but started in San Antonio Texas.
KFC has had the monopoly here for way too long.
