I MET THE DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT ADVISOR,WE TALKED ABOUT CERTAIN SCENARIOS IF I WORKED.
She did suggest that I may be entitled to an aditional beneit premium, which is not what the interview was really about.
THE SYSTEM SEEMS TO BE SET AGAINST WORK.

ANYONE CARE TO RESPOND?
I don't know how it is in Brittain, but in the U.S., you can't work and collect ssi, or very little work, if you collect unemployment. So, it does seem to "discourage" anyone who is temporarily disabled, to seek employment, as the system "punishes " you for trying to better yourself.

HUBERT,I DON'T UNDERSTAND.
ARE YOU SAYING THAT IN THE GOOD OL' US OF A, THERE IS SIMILIAR PROBLEM WITH BENEFITS?
I WENT TO THE INTERVIEW LOOKING TO TALK ABOUT WORK, AND WE(INCLUDING MY CARER ENDED UP WITH TALKING ABOUT A DISABILITY BENEFIT PREMIUM, WHICH YOU MAY THINK IS VERY GOOD NEWS FOR ME,EXCEPT I WANTED/EXPECTED A TALK ABOUT WORK.
ITS APPEARS I WOULD HAVE TO EARN QUITE A LOT TO BE BETTER OFF WITHOUT BENEFITS.
IDEALLY, I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE A SPONSOR TO COVER ME.
INDEED, ONE IDEA THAT HAS OCCURED TO ME IS BEING A PAID SPEAKER TALKING ABOUT HOW BENEFITS SYSTEM IS SUCH A DISINCENTIVE TO WORK AND HOW IT NEEDS TO BE REFORMED,THIS GENERATION OF BRITONS MIGHT BE LAST TO SEE ABLEBODIED PEOPLE RECEIVING BENEFIT
I have a sister-in-law that is bipolar, ex-druggie, ex-alcoholic. She is doing very well at the moment, God bless her. But, she isn't allowed to make much money, because if she did, she would lose her benefits.
She also has some money that she got from an inheritance, but isn't allowed to use it. If she does, she will lose her benefits. So, what good is it? I suppose that she could get off disability and blow her inheritance in a year or two, and re-apply for benefits again, but is that a good thing? I guess it's the same in the USA as in the UK.

You got it badboy lol!!
It is equally stupid for able-bodied workers as well. My 'employers' wanted to give me an hourly rate of pay well above the minimum wage - problem is that if they did I'd be worse off - my tax credits would drop and I'd lose most if not all of my student grant entitlement. So here I stay on minimum wage, the taxman boosting my pay rather than my employer and with a student loan which I'll possibly never have to repay if I fail to hit the minimum threshold to begin repaying!
If you want to work but you're better off on benefit, how about doing some voluntary - for able-bodied people I think you can do up to about 10 hours per week without benefits being affected (yes, fellow merrycans, we get penalised for doing voluntary work too!!) - it might be different for you. I don't know the nature or degree of your disability but I'm pretty sure whatever help you can give would be very much appreciated.
It's the same here in Canada. If you are receiving Disability you can work, but can only make very little before they deduct it off your pension (about $160 CDN). The amount you receive is very little for someone to live on, more so for a person with health problems that require a special diet or medical supplies that they have to purchase with their own money. It is also the same for inheritances. Although this can be gotten around by setting up trusts within the will.

I HAVE THOUGHT OF SOME IDEAS OF HOW THEORITICALLY I COULD EARN MONEY TO GET OFF SOCIAL SECURITY.
WHETHER THEY ARE PRACTICAL OR NOT, I AM NOT SURE.
A COMBINATION OF IDEAS HAS OCCURED TO ME.
AN INTRIGING IDEA HAS OCCURED TO ME HOWTO GET O BENEFITS.
I CAN THINK OF AN IDEA EVERY SECOND WHEN I PUT MY BRAIN INTO GEAR.
lol badboy - I don't think I've ever met anyone so determined to get off benefits!
You gonna tell us what you're thinking of then?
