In some of the post I read, people say that they have never been a JW. What makes them post on this forum? My only guess would be because they have family or friends that are.
Never a JW, what makes you post here?

In my case it's because while teaching a 4th grade class one day one of the students asked if she could pass out some leaflets to her classmates. When I looked at them and saw they were from the Watchtower I said no, because it isn't legal to do that on school grounds (but I didn't tell her that). It got me to wondering what would prompt one so young do such a thing. Not knowing anything about the JWs I did some research. Almost immediately I found this site. I couldn't pull away from some of the stories I was reading and kept coming back. I hate to say it, but it was like slowing your car down so you could get a better look at the car wreck along the roadside - you just can't help yourself. And here I am still, but I remain because I've met some great people and made some friends. So, thanks JWD!

Some of us lived for years in that car wreck you slowed down to take a closer look at.
It's called the Truth but it really the LIE.

jgnat
bigmouth: Yeah, jgnat. Why??
Thanks for the laugh! The obvious answer, I am married to one. There's a much wider audience to the Witess madness. There's lovers, friends, family, in-laws, and interested crusaders. My stepmom near the end would tell the Witnesses at the door, "You don't need to tell me anything about the Witnesses. My daughter married a Witness. I know all about you guys and I'm not interested." For some reason, they never hung around to find out what her specific concerns were. I wonder why?

Who are you?
Married to a 3rd Gen for 27 years, brother was in 15 years now out, sister still in after 32 years.
I inititially joined for 2 reasons:
1) I could either write my wife off and her 24/7 obsession with JWD...or I could participate and try to use the forum to better understand the influence that growing up a JW had on my wife.
2) I posted to release anger after my JW MIL shunned my wife (after 30 years) on the advice of a CO who had never even met my wife.
Then I quit and was drawn back because my wife wanted me to defend her on a thread about Pornography.
Then I stayed for two reasons:
1) To give my personal opinion after 30+ years of exposure (no malice intended) that the WTS is a corrupt bunch of arrogant fluffernutters.
2) There are two aspects of the WTS thought process in particular that I believe are severely detrimental to society as a whole. One the notion that higher education is somehow a waste of time and shouldn't be pursued throughout ones lifetime and two that the US government is **###**** and voting is pointless.
These attitudes about the US government as a whole continues to be reflected on this forum.
It isn't my concern so much as who people vote for, as much as it is that they vote and participate. Because I defend the right to vote and point out the good the US government has done...i.e. Marshall Plan...I am usually assumed to be right wing. I think it is important to be a responsble American citizen and vote, especially with such an important election coming up.
