Yes, I have had them come to my door. When they do I tell them I'm not interested and they inevitably ask why not. That's when I tell them how I don't agree with some of their actions. This always makes them say "like what?" So I tell them about how it destroys families and that they know in their hearts that disfellowshipping is wrong but the organization requires them to go against their conscience. I talk about other issues too, always keeping them on the defensive. I have had them literally run away from me.
Never a JW, what makes you post here?

Yes, you are right NVR. I do try to get people to look at things in a different way in the hopes that they can discover the peace they already have within themselves. I have found that Mormons are actually willing to sit and listen, but the dubs that come to my door tend to glaze over after a while when I bring up certain things. Gotta go to school now.

voting is pointless.
These attitudes about the US government as a whole continues to be reflected on this forum.
It isn't my concern so much as who people vote for, as much as it is that they vote and participate. Because I defend the right to vote and point out the good the US government has done...i.e. Marshall Plan...I am usually assumed to be right wing. I think it is important to be a responsble American citizen and vote, especially with such an important election coming up.
You'll be pleased to know Who are you? that registering to vote was one of my first actions in mentally leaving the cult.
I look forward to voting in 2008. The current political situation of the U.S. isn't at all pretty, IMHO, but I will participate.

Just like you said, those of us with friends and family who are involved in the WTS would like to learn how to reach our loved ones.
We have to learn how to get around the thought-stopping cliches and figure out how to ask the right questions with the right attitude.
It's a process to learn how to ask the right questions without being labeled an opposer. Learning how to go around the mind control is a key to successfully re-starting the thinking process that can free people. There's a method to it.
Learning from people who have been there, and who have managed to become free, is very helpful. It gives us hope and shows us that just because someone is still "in", doesn't mean they are still under mind control. They may be staying in to get their family out with them. It is inspiring to be here and to see the every-day heroes. I love this forum.

It was Pubsinger's fault!!
I was studying with JW's but I asked too many questions so they dumped me - almost everything they taught me (which did seem logical as well), I would ask Pub for the other view and he'd tell me what to ask them next time! He suggested I came here to explore it more myself. What an eye-opener! The JW's still bring the mags and anything else I ask for so I still get chance to throw an odd question in!
At the same time I was also suicidally depressed (hmm where'd I hear that you're an easy target when you're vulnerable?!) so JWD also became a support network for me whilst I work through my issues. Thank you all for being here!

One memorable thread was from an enlightened teacher who wanted to accommodate a Witness student. Many of you pulled from deep and painful experiences in your own school experience to advise the teacher how to make it more comfortable for the child.
Not a single one of you tried to advise the teacher to sabotage the child's beliefs. You all know from painful experience that religious battles must stay out of the playground. Don't use children as pawns.
I love the 'net when we help each other like that.
