I'm so glad he's out. He never should've been in jail in the first place!!!
LOL Mouthy!
I remember arguing with a co-worker once who was Catholic and against suicide in any form and believed that all would go to hell...blah blah blah!
Then I posed a question. Those who were in the World Trade Center faced with burning to death but chose to jump...was it wrong for them to choose the less painful of demise?
The Catholic said 'of course not'...They were completely justified.
What a hypocrite!
It's all about the law.
How can we precisely define when it's right to 'put someone down'. We do it with our cats and dogs on a daily basis. Even then, we contemplate whether it was the right thing to do. Could we have waited another month before bozo the dog was terminated?
If a doctor terminates someone too early, is it murder? Even if the person consents to it, are they being rational enough to make the decision to be terminated this month rather than next month in sound mind? If someone has a dignity corrosive disease, and they want to end their life, is it because they are depressed?
The legal quagmire of euthanasia !

Last year I did an essay on assisted suicide...some on here may remember....
There are a few states that allow it now due to his stance. I think Oregon is one state where it is now legal to have assistance...but there are several things that have to be done to make sure the person choosing this option is the right candidate.

O.K. Scully That picture reminded me Life is worth living SIGH!!!!!!!What a tempter Tom is
Holy Hell...he used to charge.
Personally I have nothing against Dr Death
I'm on the fence on this one...on the one hand, I think people who are really suffering should be allowed to choose their own destiny. On the other hand, I think about the possibility of dishonest family members out to inherit faster, or other ulterior motives. I definitely do NOT want a kind of world where people go off to some movie-esque death chamber when their alloted time is up (ala Soylent Green, Logan's Run) or just to conserve resources. Whether the former would be a slippery slope to the latter is pure speculation, but enough to give me the heebie-geebies.
And of course, if the government got involved, it would be so red-taped it would be ridiculous. I mean, think of the legal procedures involved now in deathrow inmates...their arm has to be swabbed with alcohol before recieving the injection, can't risk infection now, can we? Can you imagine some poor senior suffering from cancer or something, being faced with a multi-thousand dollar bill to end their life? Well, Mr. Jones, that'll be 500 dollars for your 1 day hospital stay, 10 dollars for aspirin, 20 dollars for alchohol swab, etc etc etc.
And of course, then there's the problem with insurance...many life insurance policies carry a no suicide clause...if euthanasia became legal, what of that? Makes me think of that movie with Tom Selleck where his aging parents keep trying to die, but all the bad luck falls on Tom's character instead of them getting hurt.
I dunno, the guy creeps me out. He likes his job a little too much. I'd heard he'd helped severely depressed people end their life.
On the other hand, I'd work with the professionals at the hospitals here, if I were given a terminal diagnosis.
