What would you do?

I am soooo worried about you now. Your employers must be made to feel obligated to either get in extra security or locks fitted.

I'm with YOU Crumpet---on BOTH counts!

I was thinking that there HAS to be some way to secure the door if only something really big, strong and breakthrough-proof for the time being (until you leave) then they can repaint or refix or whatever they have to do.

I sure hope you grabbed your hat and headed home by now! And NO---I don't feel you were over-reacting. Not at ALL. Better safe than sorry!

    hugs,

    Annie

    Hi Xena,

A little cell phone advice. DON'T USE 911 ON A CELL PHONE!!! (If you can help it.) Most places it takes forever to get through. Instead find out the local number for the police dispatch center. Then make sure it gets into your speed dial on a number you won't forget. I have the dispatch numbers for the city where I work and the city where I live on my cell's speed dial.

Also, if you're at work and need to run for the hills just dial 911 on the land line and leave the phone off the hook. Then the police will know an address to come looking for you.

I'm with Warlock. They should have some security at your job, armed security, if they expect you to stay. My boss knows of the restraining order I have and he carries a gun in his pickup out front. And we have security guards. After the U of Wa shooting, there is not point in not being careful.

I'm home after picking my daughter up and doing a bit of shopping. Thank you for all the concern and replies with advise!

I'm not sure what I'm going to do about tomorrow, I'll call my boss in the morning and see if there are any updates on what is going on with this guy. Megadude made a good suggestion, that we get his parole officers number and call personally to see what is going on instead of relying on this woman to keep us updated. I'm also going to have them put a lock on the door to the upstairs office, we need one anyway so now is as good a time as any to get it done!

So I decide to make sure things are taken care of myself because no one else is doing it. I call Tammy (the cause of all this drama) and tell her I want the guys name and his parole officer's name and number. She balked at giving it to me because she said she was taking care of it and had just spoken with the parole officer and he might not want to talk to me. She also threatened to quit because this was just all to upsetting for her. I told her that really wouldn't do anyone any good at this point and to give the information to me anyway. Finally she did. I called the parole officer and just let him know that as the death thread involved our place of business we were concerned with how it was being handled. He stated that they had put a note in his file and he would be held when he came in for his scheduled appointment but as he was out on a bond that was all they could do at this point. If he showed up here we could call the police and they would pick him up (course none of us besides Tammy knows what he looks like so I guess until he pulls a gun we are kind of at a loss). When I questioned him further though he stated that as no one knew where he was the police couldn't pick him up.

hhhmmmm Tammy said she knew where he was.....So I told him that and he said if she knows where he is she can contact the police there and have him picked up. Bingo! So I call her and tell you that she needs to contact the police where he is and have him picked up. Would seem simple wouldn't it? But nooooo. She was here when I got in this morning...brushed past me going out the door and I asked her, did you contact the police? She replied that it was "taken care of". I said "is he in jail?" Nope, but "IT IS TAKEN CARE OF". Got in her car and drove off.

I called my employers to see if they knew WFT she was up to now. Apparently she didn't contact the police, she is relying on her friends to keep tabs on him. Now why would she not have him picked up if she could? Inquiring minds want to know.....

As of now I've got the guys that work in our shop keeping an eye out for anyone who tries to come up here, the front door is locked and the gate to our yard is shut and locked. If the guys all have to leave for installs I'll take off as well.

I guess I'm a bit pissed to be pulled like this into someone else's drama, especially when I work really hard at keeping away from this type of crap...and then on top of that she tries to make me feel guilty for wanting to ensure my own and ultimately her safety as well.

    What's up with people????

She sounds like a liability. She's milked everyone for sympathy and now is back tracking because in all probability the danger wasn't as substantial as she has made out, especially if she hasnt bothered having him arrested. I doubt she'll last at your workplace long!

Am glad you are okay though and that you took all the right precautions!

If I were you, I wouldn't work there until he is detained.

Your employer should provide somewhere else for you to do this work. Why can't you take the computer from work home with you?

Is keeping this job really necessary?

That's what I'm thinking as well and she is pissed at me for pushing it like I did.

And sometimes people just dont care enough about themselves to protect themselves adequately against dangerous exes - let alone anyone else. Very annoying for you - at least you got an afternoon off though!

hhhmm don't know why it did the quote that way....

Trust me I've gone over all the options in my head. At this point with everything locked up and all the guys on "red alert" I'm feeling ok being here. I think the guys are almost hoping he shows up so they can kick his ass.
