They're in a cult Pope.
They know not what they do.
I was one of them not too long ago.
I hope many more find freedom and a reality-based existence before too much of their lives are stolen from them.

Its a progressive destructive organization that controls what goes into the typical JW's head. Any attack on them from this site and similar ones is seen in their eyes as persecution. It strengthens their faith and they fall deeper in the hands of the organization. The members who have experience leaving the organization are the ones who are best to assist others who like myself are fading.

Good question Pope,
Everyone has their own reason, and mine is similar to many who have already made comments.
For myself it is primarily people.
Many of my own family members and those of my wives are firmly entrenched, not to mention many very good friends.
I thought about quietly fading. I thought about simply walking away and leaving it all behind. If I was the only one involved I would most definitely do the latter, however that is not the case. At present I have a very strong desire to help other people in the JW faith to shake loose and free their minds from the control of the WTS. I have made a firm decision to remain in the organization and continue to serve as an elder with the expressed purpose of planting seeds of doubt and helping as many as possible to WAKE UP. I don't go in the ministry (pretty cool that I can stay on as an elder isn't it?), and I follow a personal code of sorts that helps keep my sanity. (http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/134758/2400393/post.ashx#2400393)
I honestly believe that over 6 million people have been robbed of their freedom, are putting their very lives in danger, and are condemning themselves and those close to them to a life filled with needless anxiety, depression, feelings of guilt and the development of a dysfunctional and judgemental personality. Most Witnesses do not realize how tainted their own personalities have become because of their exposure to the teachings of the FDS. These people deserve to be helped. The organization itself deserves to be destroyed. I lam just doing my part to help achieve both.

An elder said to me a short time ago when I was discussing my feelings about the problems in the JW's organisation "This is a time of testing & sifting,& some matters may not even be resolved until Armageddon as indicated by Zeph 3:11,12. The wisest thing to do is to change the things you can, endure the things you cant. Work with the direction as closely as your conscience will allow & try to have confidence that Jehovah will eventually readjust things if they are not right." I know for a fact that this elder is a very loving, concerned person and I know he wants to do as much as he can to help others. So leaving the JW's is not an option for him. I think this is how most get by these days. Having great faith in Jehovah not in men to put right what is wrong in time. I think that's why the they put up with it.

that is a very interesting twist to the issue. Trouble is, in the meantime the evil that the "men" of the organisation, in particular the GB and hierarchy, perpetratre continues to take place and even worsen.
Even sincere brothers like your elder friend aren't able to comprehend that the very fact the problems exist is proof in itself that God could or would never have anything to do with such an organisation. There can be no mixing of Light and Dark, of Good and Evil, where God is concerned.
Thanks for your post!

I saw a documentary on Jonestown recently. Many people there were "lurkers" too. They figured out that they were in a cult, and that something was drastically wrong, but escape was difficult and very dangerous. Some took a big risk in contacting Congressman Ryan and his entourage, and unfortunately it led to the Congressman and several others being gunned down. Some fled into the jungle to escape the fruit punch incident, but others could not get away and were apparently "strongly advised" to take the punch.
It's a f***ing cult, and if you have to, you will do anything you need to to survive. But the important thing is to be realistic about surviving and hold your cards close to your vest until the time is right to show your hand.

I also heard that explanation that you should stay and endure because ". everything won't be solved in this system, etc., etc." The problem is that this very statement is somebody's OPINION. Probably it is the opinion of somebody who likes the status-quo and doesn't want it to end. Having this mentality is what causes people to stick their heads in the ground and pretend not to notice any atrocities that are going on. Their inactivity causes any and all wrongs to multiply. This is how corruption creeps into any organization.
While I do believe that "imperfection" won't be solved in this "system", certainly faulty policies and wrong teachings can be remedied, at least a little bit.

That is an excellent point Pope.
It takes a while for JWs, even those who are lurkers, to come to grips with this fact. Some will hang on to parts of the story because they either want to believe it so badly, or because they were told certain things from as long as they can remember and it basically becomes hard wired in to their brains as fact. There are still a lot of very intelligent people who have a hard time seeing this.
