    Welcome ariana...

If we are easily distracted by colors and things like clothing and jewlery then we can easily fall away from what we are learning in the kingdom hall.

I see - so THAT'S why there are no windows -so folks on the outside can't see the naked Congregation inside? Lol

The KH's I attended always had windows and still do, must be a regional thing. My life can be marked by the curtains...

I spent much of my "youth" gazing at the pastoral figures on the 1960s avocado green toile curtains when my eyes were averted from the pumpkin-orange floor with metallic gold swirlies. No wonder I wear corrective lenses to this day!

Later it was 1970s royal blue and lime green abstract shapes... then 1980s delicate peach and seafoam green florals...

My *very last* meeting, we observed spring's first robins yanking worms out of the lawn during the WT study... the robins were simply more interesting.

As much as I'd like to credit them with something incidious, let's be realistic, here.

Kingdom halls (even multiple cong. halls) are used no more than 30 or 40 hours a week. That means they are vacant most of the time, particularly all night. Everyone knows they are vacant. Also, don't forget that JWs have pissed off a lot of people.

Having no windows cuts down on break ins and vandalism. It also reduces distraction. Whenever I attend a conference, it is usually held in a hotel. These rooms rarely have windows.

"Our halls vary with the climate and security concerns of a region. For example in the Caribbean they are open-air . . . but in the United States we have given quite a bit of attention to security and vandalism, so we will build halls without windows. And air-conditioning is expensive [with more windows]."

So how does this fit with the Watch Tower's claim that it's a responsible carer of this planet?

Surely they are promoting an excessive use of the earth's resources??

Where is their "love of neighbor" in that?

How are they the "good citizens" that they have long boasted to be?

Lol Finally-Free Just reminded me - the code for the Burglar (security) alarm was 1-9-1-4 lol - I wonder how many Kingdom Halls have the same code, and if they've changed it now!?

OMG! there have to be hundreds... ours was 1-9-1-4, but the CO apartment was 4-1-9-1 (oh, that's clever!). When we were changing the CO code, I changed the code to 1-9-7-5. They did not see the humor of that.... I wonder why....they changed it back to 4-1-9-1. My old KH was one of those cheapa*s (purchased at a thrift store) alarms that had wireless sensors and the keypad/alarm was hung on the wall and plugged into the outlet!....hmmmm ,...guess only the stupidest burglar would not figure out to turn off the loud alarm, all they have to do is UNPLUG THE ALARM?? (which is usually how I shut off the alarm...could not remember the code....oh yeah... 1-9-1-4) Alarm did not help when vandals spray painted "FU*K Jesus" and the pantagraph (sp?) on the brick wall outside....! Oh yeah,,,,no windows except on the front by the doors SnakesInTheTower (of the "1-9-7-5" Sheep Class)

About 20 years ago, they built only windowless kingdom halls around here. They cited saving money on construction as the main reason.

Then, after getting a lot of people questioning them about secret rituals and things, they started building with windows in the last few years.

Any hall I have been in with windows, they make sure that they are covered so that you can't look outside and daydream anyway.

Since when are they concerned with what a Kingdon Hall has to pay in heating or cooling bills? All they want is the cash.

My KH had one of those as well, the caretakers were forever forgetting the code and just unplugging the thing, made me wonder why they bothered with it in the first place....alt

Our security code was 1935. I'll bet every KH in North America uses one of about five possible codes.
