Your limits on pet sleeping quarters!!!!

I know you are all tired of hearing from me about dogs, but I need help.

Our one Dobie sleeps where he is suppose to after being tucked in, kissed, and his head laid down on a pillow. His older brother after experiencing the same, after about an hour, quietly gets up and sneaks down the hall way, begging to get into bed with us.

Here is the problem, the boys are 100 pounds each. When the older one sneaks in he promptly lays down between us with his head on the pillows. He sheds and snores! After a night or two we itch like crazy and I have to run all bedding through the wash just to get into bed at night.

I am really tired of this, but feel guilty shutting the door so he can't get in at night. He is quiet, and doesn't move, just the silly snoring and is a big snuggler against me or my husband. He literally waits till we get up in the morning whether that be 5 am or 8 am..... Never making a fuss or having an accident.

Are we just too weak about owning big dogs? Would you tolerate this?

Ask yourself what you want. Then ask the dog if he will allow it.

I'm a softy, so I would allow it....can you nudge him if the snoring gets too loud?

If you lock him out of your bedroom at night, would he whine a lot causing you to lose more sleep?

My neighbors across the street have a huge Great Dane (almost 190 pounds). They have a queen size bed. If the dog beats them to the bed, they have to sleep to accomodate him and he hogs all the covers plus the pillow. He also occasionally wets the bed. THAT'S where I would be drawing the line. Not them. Amazing.

My little one on the other hand is 13.5 pounds and snuggles with us every night. We have a king sized bed so there's plenty of room. She snores like a horse, but since she has hair and no fur, she does not shed and her hair is very silky. There's something to be said to waking up eye to eye, nose to nose on the pillow with a little cuddler like this one every morning and getting your nose licked before you can react.

My take on this: if you are uncomfortable with your dog in the bed (itching, etc.), then you need to escort him back to his bed and tell him to stay. You may have to do it a few times, but it's about your comfort and sleep and YOU being the alpha dog in the family, not him.

PS. Take a gander at the "Dog Whisperer". Great show with good examples of how to change canine behavior.

Pmouse, I am a huge fan of the Dog Whisperer.....I could never do the alpha roll when I would like to do it, but when the fellas decide to get on their back with all 4 legs in the air.....I am their to tickle their tummies.

I failed to mention I also have a huge 12 pound cat on the pillows at night too. She's on the back of my chair as I am typing. So sometimes it seems we are swimming in pet hair....! I vacuum every day.

My dogs have NEVER wet the bed, and always move to allow us in and where we want to be. Not so with the cat. She runs the show.

Tonight I decided this is the last time I am sleeping with a 100 pound lovie in the bed. .....oh boy do I feel like a bad human!!!

If you are going to kick the dog out, you better do the same with the cat, or there could be trouble.

Our cat sleeps with us, on her blanket at the bottom of the bed. We are both allergic and we know when she sneaks up by our faces at night.

    We have two cats.

One of them is a very cute but baaaaad girl. If she gets mad because she does not like her food, or something else, sometimes who knows what, she will run into the bedroom, jump from the floor to our bed, across our chests, then back out of the room before we can get her.

At least your dog does not do that.

My wife and I sleep with 4 cockerspaniels. Initially I was against it. But they won. I only sleep with my wife 2 nights a week as I work midnights. And mosttimes I dont sleep with her on my days off. She washes the sheets often, and fights fleas regularly. The cockers weigh about 30 lbs each. Some people are dog lovers.

My pets have trained me very well.

They all sleep where, when, and how they want to and I provide them love, food, water and toys to play with.

Cats are amazing. I was always a firm cat lover, and the one I have was adopted as a kitten. The vet said she would never amount to anything and here she is at 12 pounds/15 in the winter months..I have had her for 10 years.

Her name is Girlie and she is a total B......if you get my drift. She has the 2 male Dobermans in line and swipes their noses good if they get to sniffing too much to her liking. The boys know the term "No Kitty"...and she also knows that term and takes total advantage of the poor boys.

In the morning when I feed the dogs, she will sit waiting for the bowls to reach the floor and if she is in the mood eats from their dishes. They patiently wait for her to snack from their dishes before they begin to eat.

These boys were raised without cats, but understand they must not hurt her. Apparently "Girlie is top girl in this house...and she loves keeping these 100 pound dogs in check.....TYPICAL FEMALE!!!!!!
