I have a free subscription to a Christian mag by the name of "Plain Truth". The July/August issue has an article about the bOrg in it called "Trapped in the Watchtower. Pretty good. If interested you can read it online at www.ptm.org

OMG, Josie, that wouldn't be published by the Worldwide Church of God would it? Herbert W. Armstrong started a mag by that name back in the day...they were a cult too. I'm happy for WT articles that warn people wherever their source though.

Nah, It's called "Plain Truth Ministries", they tout Christianity without religion - think anti-legalism. (which the bOrg falls under).

Smellsgood is correct -- the Plain Truth magazine was published by the Armstrong / WWCG group. However they radically changed and apologized for their past, something the Watchtower organization is highly unlikely to ever do.

Here's a snippet from the FAQ section of the PTM website:

You're right Gopher that something the bOrg would never do. I've had this subscription for close to a year and have yet for anyone to show up at my door trying to convert me. I guess it's enuff that I'm getting the mags and I like what I've read in them

Careful Mrs. Jones.....they're similar to the WTS in that they practice disfellowshipping, are guilty of false date setting, etc. I used to listen to Garner Ted Armstrong, son of Herbert Armstrong, on TV years ago and actually liked alot of what I heard. However, I didn't want to go from the frying pan into the fire so I looked his Organization up on the internet. The WWC of God has had just as many rotten things in it as the WTS: Say two people are on their second marriage with children and they decide to join the group. They were told that they had to split up because they were committing adultery and God didn't recognize their marriage. Caused all kinds of families to be split up. Then they have their regular tithing, then double and triple tithes that left some nearly penniless while the executives lived high off the hog.

I also found out that Garner Ted Armstrong had a history of womanizing, and was actually kicked out of the church he started due to the scandal it caused. There's all kinds of crap that went down and tons of splinter groups. They also teach weird crap like the Anglo-Americans are really the decendants of the lost tribes of Israel. How do they get that? Well they take the word "Saxons" and say "doesn't that sound alot like 'Isaac's son'? I kid you not. When I read that, I thought 'that's it for me.'

Deeply flawed -- true, because they were SO CLOSE to the Watchtower, at least during the 1970's when the WWCG TV ministry was at its height. Herbert's son Garner Ted Armstrong had a show (a televised sermon) that my JW parents would watch with interest because he almost sounded like he was reading from a Watchtower or Awake magazine, until the very end when there'd be a twist that was just a little different than the JW's, and then my dad would say "that doesn't sound right!!".

Anybody who has spent any time ~~under the thumb of~~ in a congregation of JW's can easily see the parallel here. They are Pharisical to the nth degree.
